I shoot mainly outdoor/nature and use a Pentax K3iii/55-300PLM combo 99% of the time. I'd just purchased the 1.4x tele-converter to give me some extra legs for those long shots so common in outdoor shooting. Went down to my favorite creek trail, and started taking test shots; ended up with these of an Orange Sulfur butterfly and a Northern Water Snake that had been peacefully enjoying a nap on the warm gravel trail when I so rudely woke it up. Not a happy snake; especially when I was standing between it and the creek. Managed these shots as it crawled towards me, determined to get to the water. Took these pics and stood aside and it took off like an arrow; down the bank and into the creek. The camera/TC/Lens performed admirably.

Good job with your photos. I would have never got the snake shots because when it moved towards me I would have been gone.

A great comment. The extra weight in my shorts would have nailed me in place.

Excellent photographs. I even like the close up portrait of the snake. Thanks for mentioning, snake, in your title to give us snake lovers, uh huh, right, a heads up.

Beautiful set. How did you get the snake to cooperate?
