I think my 2020 tax return refund is on one of those ships. (5 months and counting!)

You're lucky you have the refund. I always have to pay them and my check got to them fast even I sent them by what we call "Snail Mail".

It's right next to my Nikon Fc w/ 28mm ordered in July. I think the ship's anchor is caught on an oil pipeline.

I have the Z fc with the 16-50mm lens. The issue for me is that extra batteries have been backordered for 2 months.

I saw, "Where is my..." several times a day. After a few days, I buy another one. Then the original turns up. Of course, this applies only to inexpensive items.

Bought and on back order. Tell me its not sitting in some storage container on a ship anchored off the coast of California. If so, I may not see it for many months.

Does anyone else have backordered items that drag on forever?

I hope it wasnt shipped by Fedex. I have had 3 lenses lost by Fedex in the last month!!!!

PS - Now over 100 ships anchored off of Port of Los Angeles waiting to unload. Absolutely amazing from the air. It looks like LA at rush hour using ships.

Yes. I've had a Canon MP-E 65mm f/2.8 1-5x macro lens on order for a couple of months now. I'm not desperate for it, so I'll wait. I don't think we'll be going on vacation again this winter, so I figure this lens will give me some more indoor photo options to keep me busy. I have no idea when it will be available. It is supposedly in short supply because of the chip shortage.

Yes I ordered a Lenovo laptop a week ago. They told me it's 4+ months before they can ship it.

Are you going to wait for it? In 4 months it will probably be nearing obsolescence!

According to the news program I heard last night, the ships have to wait 10 days to unload. However, that only gets the cargo to the docks. They didn't say how long from there to a truck.

That is a fact of life and a huge negative impact of our economy. As of last week there were 70+ container ships off of the port of LA. That was more than 4 weeks wait. All of the ports in the US and Mexico are overwhelmed. The older container ships hold ~5000 container units. These new super ships hold ~15000 container units thus a much longer time to offload and reload. Not all port slots can handle the big ships. The furniture market are quoting 9-11 months if not in stock.

Is it not amazing how our expectations for receiving ordered items have changed over the years? I remember when I was a kid I would order some item from one of the ads in my comic books. You would cut out and fill in the little order form and then send it by mail to the vendor. Four to six weeks later the item would show up in your mailbox and I thought that was just amazing.

Now order it online and it is usually shipped the same day for delivery within a few days. I have ordered used camera gear from a well-known dealer and as long as my order is there before 2 pm, it is usually delivered the next day.

A few months ago I even had an Amazon order delivered the SAME DAY! I ordered it that morning and it was delivered that afternoon by an Amazon delivery truck. And that was considered normal shipping, not expedited. Turns out we were living within the delivery zone of an Amazon warehouse and my order had arrived early enough that it got on the truck that day. Where we live now, next-day delivery from Amazon is the norm for most items.

Ordered a not readily available part for my Dishwasher. Amazon delivered it the same day !!

And where do you think Amazon gets its products? Eventually Amazon warehouses will run out of certain things. Went to Walmart and Costco and Target locally and many of the shelves were bare. Especially noticing a decline in the food section.

The Port of LA normally pushes through $1billion a day of product. It should be operating 7 days a week 24/7 with the backlog. Drove by on a Saturday 2 weeks ago and it was SILENT. Didn't even see anyone walking on the docks.

That is union's for you. I knew a crane operator at the port of LA who 10 years ago got 200.00 an hour on Sundays and 150 on anything over 40 hours. I am sure it is more now.
