Another solution is don't buy Nikon.

The question of whether to buy gray market, or any perceived issue, could also be applied to Canon.

I really don't know you, so I have to rely on instinct. Sometimes, you put posts on here that seem to be quite informative, then, at times, you ruin your image (in my eyes!) when you make statements like you did in this post. I would think you would know that Canon and Nikon both produce outstanding gear. I find it distasteful for anyone to so blatantly put down Nikon and, in effect, Nikon users. I may not be the awesome photographer you are, and I surely am not the "all knowing, intelligent person" you like to portray. But, I would not put down any camera brand or any user of a camera brand as you have done repeatedly. I put very little faith in what you say anymore. Oh, and by the way, I started out my "hobby" of photography with Canon gear. I switched to Nikon, and never looked back, I am perfectly satisfied with Nikon, understanding that I will never reach your stature as a photographer. Have a good day, Sir.

My sentiments exactly.

I see you're professing your ignorance of the issue and the policy differences between the two companies. Thanks for that late contribution.

You have no clue to the different policy of both companies. One will supply parts to repair shops and one wont. I buy USA only and canon

I totally agree with jradose. CHG_CANON has stepped over the line far to many times in an arena where teaching and sharing is supposed to be the objective. Why he chooses to "knock" on people he finds inferior I don't care to know. I just wish would go away and no longer darken our site anymore.

I have reported an issue regarding his recent posts, mainly ad hominem attacks.

Don't berate; educate. There is no need to be rude.

I happen to be, yes. But, over the years I've used Canon as well.

ad hominem

That's a pretty fancy word to be tossing around, especially when your context shows you don't understand the meaning. Did you look up that Facebook group discussed earlier? Seems like the kind of community where members can bandy around $5 words without fear of embarrassment of anyone knowing the meaning.

I have one Canon camera that I bought in Europe after dropping my camera. There are a few camera stores around the country that would repair it if needed. I have also purchased a couple of international versions of lenses on Amazon and you can get a replacement warranty very inexpensively. I have never had any issues with them.

Canon repairs Grey market. Nikon doesn't and won't even give repair shops parts

LOL about all this BS! I started with a Voightlander 35mm that I got from the PX in Korea. Switched to Nikon 35mm then to Canon when I went digital. Dunno why but I seem to remember it was something I read about lens. Anywho, I've been shooting a 5Dc for many years, suits me perfectly as I print all 8x10s. If I ever get the urge to print larger, I'll very probably stick with Canon as I have a drawer full of lens, maybe a dozen as from time to time I have had GAS attacks. I field trial bird dogs so much of ny spare cash goes there, ten or twelve thou a year. My trainer is the best one east of the Mississippi and he ain't cheap. I won't name him but if any of you are trialers, he lives in Glenville PA. Harry

It would seem to me if that you can only afford to buy a camera or lenses on the grey market then buy Canon do not buy Nikon.
Whether grey market or not how can Nikon refuse to repair or supply parts to independent repaired when after all they made the cameras and lenses in the first place.

I watched another video from Tony Northrup last night, and he came down strong against gray market gear. He unknowingly bought a gray market lens, and he had trouble getting it repaired. He finally found a shop that cheated and fixed it for him. If you think your item will never need repair, you can save some money, but if it were me, I'd always worry about something going wrong with it.

Perhaps it is not the gray market but which manufacturer when it comes to repairs.
