Quick Setup: New Dell Laptop

My new Dell Laptop arrived looking slim and trim. But the setup process has become so complicated although with some handholding. For one, I want to disable the touchpad for the mouse. That option would prove so helpful while navigating the setup process.

First: Can anybody tell me how to switch to the mouse?

Second: Can anybody please steer me to a quick setup process?

Thanks for any guidance.

It’s in the control panel. You can get there through the desktop. Never heard of the Quick Setup process. The Win10 PC that I bought just last month did set up pretty fast. Maybe Quick Setup is now default ? (Win10 Home-S)

I'm surprised it didn't come with a paper setup guide.

All my recent computers set themselves up when I turn it on the first time.
(Every computer sets itself up a bit differently due to the hardware involved.)
They do ask a few questions for some things though.

Press the Windows key on the keyboard.
Scroll down the list to Dell.
Select touchpad settings.
Easy

No need to disable the touchpad. If the mouse is wireless with a USB receiver, just plug it in - once it’s recognized and windows installs the correct driver (automatic), both/either will work.

Yea but... I HAD to disable the mouse pad because my thumbs keep hitting it.......
I hate mouse pads. I use a mouse.

Got it. In that case, disabling it in control panel, as mentioned above, is the answer.

It is an answer, if you dont mind having to do it every time Windows does an update.

That, or on my Toshiba Laptop there is an on-off button right above the mouse pad.

I can’t speak to that authoritatively as I use an RF mouse on all my computers, (including laptops and ignore the touchpad), so I’m not aware that an update automatically changes the mouse/touchpad configuration, but it would surprise me if it did. it certainly doesn’t disable my mouse or change any other peripheral settings in the many updates I’ve patched on 4 Win10 machines.

My touch pad never gets turned back on after any Windows updates on my laptop. Always the wireless mouse.

I had lots of issues with a new $780.00 insperion 15 inch I ordered from Dell a few weeks ago. My main issue was that my external speakers wouldn't work with it. Different Dell techs tried to figure out why. One (on line) tech. even asked why I wanted to use my external speakers when it has built in speakers? They gave up and said in so many words that my speakers were the issue. The same speakers still work just fine on my desktop. At no point did any of the techs. say it was not designed to work with external speakers. Now I'm in the middle of a runaround with them trying to get a refund.

Do you use a Dell laptop?
Ive been using them for about 15 years. Currently a Precision 7520. It dosnt surprise me anymore that one or two settings are changed with some updates. I've got used to it. But Ive found the answer to the mousepad reverting to the default settings by changing it in the Dell app.
I dont really care if the poster doesn't try my suggestion. Was just trying to help. Its not a competition you know.

And I gather you dont use a Dell? So how do you know what a Dell laptop will do, or not do I wonder?
