Do you use an editor?
Most editors will allow adding text to an image.
Pick a font, size it, and add it to the image.
I recommend saving the image with the text as a separate file, preserving the original so you can print it without the signature.

You can see examples on my website.

If you are doing it as advertising, thats a valid reason. But if you think it will protect the image from being copied, it woin't. Everything on the net is at risk of theft. And Signatures are easily ereased. But if it makes you feel better go right ahead. (I used to sign them. I don't any more)

Adding a "Mark" or "Branding" is little more than graffiti...
And typically a distraction to an image's visual statement...

However like boberic said if your client wants their Mark, brand, or Logo that is another issue entirely.
Example Below is In Store Display (40x60) for Giotto of Georgetown
I did the Display Design (Typography & Layout) in Photoshop
Wardrobe Styling: Phil Kogan for Giotto of Georgetown
I also did the Photography & Make-up

Hope this helps kulamon

If you are trying to add value to your images, the correct way is to use a pen with archival ink and hand sign, on the front of the image or in the white border. If you are trying to deter unauthorized use, you are kidding yourself. If you are trying to establish ownership in case you need to recover a copyright infringement award in court, you are kidding yourself. Copyright is almost impossible to legally establish without a copyright registration with the US Copyright Office.

You can create a brush in Photoshop using an image of your actual signature. Once created, you can apply your signature by picking the particulars brush and clicking on the image where you want it. You can adjust its size by using the [ and ] keys. Very simple and effective. You can create a new layer just for your signature so you can remove it or move it once you have applied it to your image. There are tutorials online that will show you how to do this. Google is your friend.

I do not like putting my name on any image I take, I believe it takes away from the image. But if you must, most post processing engines can do this, all you need to do is google it and videos will pop up telling you exactly how to do it.
For example, if you have photoshop, search, "how to I put my name on my images in photoshop?"

Watermarking an image is an individual volition.
Everyone has their reason(s) for doing it or not doing it.
Obviously in their mind, they are "right".

You want to do it, do it. You don't don't.
Simple.

You need an editor. If you don't have one, I recommend getting FastStone, it's free (https://www.faststone.org) load your photo into it, then press D for "draw board" then, a tool bar will pop up on the left, press the letter A on the top of tool bar , draw a box where you want your name, select the font and size you want in the font menu on top right of your screen.

There are a bunch of other functions, so just load your photo, slide your mouse to the left edge of screen and full menu will pop up.

When you're finished, Press Save As (Ctrl+s) and don't over write your original.

Every editor I have tried had a means of putting on a text, if not a logo.

I do it on photos I post on social media since they seem to travel far and wide and I want the viewer to know who took it. It is satisfying when at events and people come up to me and mention my photos.
