Here on the north side of Fort Wayne the rain gage showed we got 5 7/8" rain during the last series of rain events in a little over 24 hours. There is more rain on the way. The yellow grass is now green again and will be higher than I like before I can mow.

Our pond is higher than usual for late September only a few inches below maximum. I had planned to trench form the house and install new pipes when the water level dropped this summer; it never dropped enough.

The rain and cool nights lowered the water temperature so playing in the pond is over for me.

It will be at least 2 days drying out so I can mow and continue the form work. Photo shows how wet the trenches are. I did not put away my tools before the rain hit. I am glad that I have drains that drain to the pond installed. Once the trenching and forms are finished I will place the perforated drain pipe with sock, add gravel and hand mix about 0.8 cu yard to 1 yard (~ 45 80# bags of concrete mix) of concrete for the footers. I will then lay the 200 or more block, 2000 brick and about 100 linear feet of limestone capping. I need a new mortar box.

I also need to remove excess brush and 30 year old trees (maybe 20 to 40) to promote healthy growth; the trees are self pruning and the tops are blowing off during storms and planned to rent a 8" chipper after I use some chain saws and a pole saw. Maybe I will do that while the trenches dry out.

The rain is better than the wild fires and drought out west

Mom always said be careful of what you wish for, so now if I wish it is very specific.

Send some to So Cal, we need it. Be glad you don't have more, once long ago in a land far away with my friends in green we had 36" in less than 3 days.

As to the grass, if you can get the gvt to declare your lawn a "Wetland" it will be illegal to mow it after that so you will have a valid excuse.

I do not want it to be a wet land. I take about 5 hours and 5 gallons of gasoline to mow on a zero turn mower plus weed eating around the pond, utility boxes, bird house posts and other items. I do not mow the river banks as they are too steep covered in trees and bushes. I do not want to go swimming in the dirty st joe river.

Every time we get rain I think of those living and in the west.

I am headed up your way Saturday to take the Indiana Barn Foundation Tour in Allen and Dekalb counties. How muddy is it going to be? It sounds like I need to drive the 4WD F150 rather than the Insight.

We've had several days of rain - 2.5" last night. It seems like it's either too much or too little.

Hey, don't send it to So Cal, send it to NorCal. Southern California will get it eventually via that canal system that was built in 1963.

"The Governor Edmund G. Brown California Aqueduct is a system of canals, tunnels, and pipelines that conveys water collected from the Sierra Nevada Mountains and valleys of Northern and Central California to Southern California."

I just walked bare foot through the sunny grass with no issue. Also the trench is without standing water. When looking at the tour web site; it seems to indicated grass most places. Our place is drying out. Yesterday I drove the F150 across the lawn with no issue when going to the wood pile to get fire wood for my daughter. Much of our place is sandy loam and dries fast.
i think what ever you drive will work. Take your boots just in case.

OK, WHO TRANSPORTED MY HOUSE TO ANOTHER STATE OVERNIGHT?

It just started to rain/sprinkle for the 4th time since I woke up at 11AM - I was awake reading until 2:30 or a bit later.

And one or more of the hawks must be in the area, the only birds I have seen in my yard are two hummers around my nectar feeders and the little guys were playing in the rain. Shower time I guess.
