My Image Your View: Storm in Yosemite Valley

Everyone likes to get that iconic shot of some place that's been photographed way too many times. But the challenge is to get an image that's different from the rest. So, here's another image of Yosemite Valley from Tunnel View. To get a different view of this iconic scene, I originally started before sunrise while it was still dark hoping to get a nice sunrise image. It soon became obvious that I wasn't going to get that image because a storm rolled into the valley shortly after I got there. So I set the camera up for 30 sec exposures and began taking a whole series of shots hoping to catch the lightning down the valley somewhere. Well eventually I got it on the 27th try. But the image still needs some work to bring back the ambience of the storm racing thru the valley very early in the morning. I hope you have fun with this image.

I've posted both a jpg and a 16-bit png file.

Feel free to download this image to your computer. Then you can edit it any way that you think is an improvement. Composites, black and white conversions, textures, sky swaps, inverted images, solarization, or whatever else you think will improve the photo are acceptable techniques for your edit. When you are finished, post your edit in this thread. Edits will be accepted until 9pm Eastern time on Thursday. No edits will be accepted after that time because we will begin voting then. Thank you for your efforts and your participation.

Thanks
Mike

Very nice scene. I don't think I improved it, but did try something a little different.

For me, it had to be black and white.

I thought the original was too blue for the storm. Thought it might be just a slight white balance change, ended up more than that.

It's nice to see photos from areas I have never been to . And for you to allow us to play with photos is very kind of you . Changes made were made with PS tools and Skylum Al . I didn't want to change the lighting too much because you said it was early morning . Tommy

Thanks for the 16bit file. Really a nice shot Mike. It looks like that lightening was all over the place. Spider lightening?

Beautiful image Mike just as it is, but it was fun trying to come up with an alternate version. Here's my view:
