Hi Doc, I appreciate your kind comment very much. These experiments with postprocessing have been fun but I do not share them on my birding forums where the "don't show the hand of man or fool with mother nature" ethic holds. I try to avoid taking the subject too far from reality but have seriously messed with the backgrounds on many of my last posts.
It is good to hear from you Doc, thanks for the visit. Hope you have had a good Summer.

How does one remove a background and replace it with another?

The use of layers and creating a mask to isolate the subject and then blend in a new background is the usual path. I use PS Elements and these were actually done in the Guided section using the AI sky replacement tools and variations of their stock backgrounds. I am in no way sophisticated with my processing skills but this kind of play is
an enjoyable way to revisit favorite photos with new goals. There are far better resources on UHH than me to learn multiple ways of accomplishing these background modifications. Ultimately it is about how much computer time you are willing to spend and I have had far too much time on my hands in the past year. We are hoping for rain and the beginning of the migratory waterfowl season to get us going again.
Best to you Doc,

Thank you tcthome! I can get carried away with my color choices and I have been working the reds and oranges kind of hard with my recent posts, but....I can't help it!

Thanks MT! The light was there in the originals which makes this kind of play possible. Hope things are good down your way.

Thank you Eugene. I just enjoyed your young Osprey set. It was a good reminder that well done documentary bird photos can be stunning without the need for this kind of play.

Good news, us too...with the operative words "so far" still in play...
