As stated, an off brand, I have several old Nikon ones that are close to replace on the scale. Don't get me started on tool batteries. Even though they don't get heavy use I have to buy new ones every couple of years. I started putting a put in service date on them. The issue was the overnight failure, that was strange. Other camera batteries, not many, have failed over the years but never that abruptly.

Thats just like the car battery, it started great an hour ago now nothing!!!!! and it won't take a charge!! story.
I had an aftermarket battery for on of my Nikon do the same thing, My first and last aftermarket battery.

quixdraw, are you willing to share the brand of the battery that died? I have and use 5or 6 En-EL 14 batteries and all look like OEM Nikon batteries but some differ in weight and definitely differ in their capacity.

Since I had no part in choosing it, it came with the camera, no problem. One I have never have seen offered for sale. Camera Sino. I have had great luck with both Wasabi and Watson over the years, and have recently gotten a couple of Kastar haven't had those long enough to say more than "so far so good".

Panasonic. That's who makes all my Canon LP-E6, LP-E6N and LP-E6NH. Just look at the fine print on the battery label.

Edit: Out of curiosity I just checked Panasonic and several other sites. It seems that Panasonic does not offer an LP-E6, N or NH with their branding. If you want it you have to go through Canon. No doubt their deal with Canon prevents them from selling their own replacement.

I have mentioned htis sp many times online that I m beginning to sound like a "broken record", a scratched CD or an ongoing loop recording that never ends.

Especially where the photo/electronic devices digital cameras, electricronc flash gear, exposure meters and BATTERIES are concerned, even brand new, fresh out of the box stuff, can unceremoniously drop dead at the most inopportune times. Gone are the days when if the battery dies in your mostly mechanical camera, there was still some limited usage at a specified shutter speed. Nowadays, WHEN the battery dies, all systems are down and out! So, if you do photography for a living or just going on a very special vacation trip, or out shooting in a remote area, you gotta have spares- at least a backup camera and perhaps an extra Speeldingrt and PLENTY of spare batteries.

Even the very best OEM batteries are simply chemically-based energy storage devices. Every now and again, a few defective units can squeeze by quality control, become affected by temperature, overcharging, or for any number or causes only discovered by "postmortem analysis"- nobody's gonna bother doing that- they will just toss them in the recycling bin and curse allot!

This is not overkilling or paranoia- just common sense! Beat the odds!

In my experience, (I have had two off brand batteries ever) - one of them stopped working altogether (just like what you describe), and the other continued to work but would noticeably not hold a charge as long as my OEM batteries - even ones that I bought around the same time and used about as much.

Now I only buy OEM - the $10-20 you save for the off-brand is simply not worth it in the long run. JMHO...

Oh would that it was so little $ difference! I have generally had good experience with both OEM and aftermarket - till this one, the score was even, one failure each down many years.
