Well done, Ron! Is that you reflected in his eye?
Cottonmouths in Texas will chase you.

From the Internet:
It is not uncommon for people to swear up, down, and sideways that they have been chased by a snake. Some particularly imaginative people have even made claims that a snake chased them down the street while they were riding a bicycle, chased them back to their car and then leaped at the windows, or chased them from their yard into the house and then struck at the door trying to get in. If you think these tales sound ludicrous, it is because they are.
When naturalists say that snakes do not chase people, we are not saying that no snake has ever come towards a human. We are saying that they do not see humans as prey and are not trying to “catch” us. Simply approaching a person or moving in their direction is not the same thing as “chasing.”
Since snakes are known to be pretty fast on their feet, um er, scales, it would seem that IF snakes chased people, a lot of people would be caught. Statistics show that is not really the case.

Excellent photograph of the snake.
I am one of those snake haters who has grown up afraid of snakes and in particular, poisonous snakes. I used to kill every snake I see but have come to realize that snakes ARE beneficial to the planet. Now I do my best to let them be unless they are in one of my buildings or near the house.
If a snake presents a danger to me or mine it will be killed.

There are a couple of color phases to cottonmouths while the timber is very brightly striped. I wouldn't have gotten down with a cottonmouth simply because they are relatively unpredictable and once down I'm down for good without help. I totally agree with the other comment...a .22 between the beady eyes.
Great shot. Several years ago I spent a day in the Okefenokee Swamp. I saw more cottonmouth's there than I have ever seen in one place.
Nice shot Ron. The cottonmouth has an undeserved bad reputation in my opinion. I believe they would have to be extremely provoked to bite someone. All the ones I've encountered have been docile and would rather slither away than show any kind of aggression.
Last time I got that low for a photo everything on my body was unhappy and painful.
I call it gorgeous image !!! Shang.
