Other than the fact that few of us can afford one, what is your issue with Rolex?

Great watches, but bling. Very often a personal statement. Someone I knew worked at a place where a Biggish Boss, a serious jerk, was always flashing his Rolex. One of the guys had contacts and got a batch of virtually identical bogus Rolexes. At the next meeting everyone wore one, flashed a bit, and that was the last of that.

My Timex keeps the same time....
I don't need to impress anyone,
nor myself.

You are never too old to dream of buying a Canon.

Agree on the Rolex. In past years, I had several of the little Powershots, good enough while they lasted. That was before I knew Canon was a cult.

I’m going to have to disagree on the Rolex. My wife gave me a stainless Submariner about 25-30 years ago, and it’s now worth about 10x what she paid for it. But most importantly, it works exactly like the day it was bought - never serviced, and I’ve worn it diving (to 100’), sailing and every day in the shower since - indestructible, and that’s the pleasure of owning a fine device, just like a good camera (Canon, Fuji and Mamiya in my case). Nothing to do with “bling”. I will pass it along to my son, just like my cameras.

Whatever. I have an Eternamatic Kon Tiki I got when I was 16 a heck of a lot longer ago than that, works. One trip back for rehab in 60 years. Also a 35 year old Seiko, the only service it has had is to be cleaned by a jeweler in small town Montana. Don't dive since hearing aids, used to. Many Rolex are reminiscent of the inside / outside joke about BMWs. In any case, one always needs to appreciate a gift, particularly from a Wife.

Well, you could sell the Rolex and buy two Canons and a decent lens to boot!

Good luck is quite predictable. If you want more good luck, take more images. Show up more often, especially with your Canon.

Nothing wrong with BMWs either - my first new car in 1971 after years of working on a variety of British cars. Great little automobile (2002) - a refreshing change. Modified and autocrossed it which led me into IMSA racing. That’s the trouble with generalizations - some people buy things because they are into the technology/performance and really understand it, not because the give a rat’s a$$ about what other people think. Want to go ahead and throw off on Mercedes or Porsches because some people buy them as a status symbol while others buy them because they are fine automobiles with excellent performance and craftsmanship.

Seems another date will soon arrive that changes the digital photography industry, changing how we think about mirrorless, how we think about photography, how we think about life...

What will be the reaction this time, while there's still time to read all about the mirrorless meteor on the photography sites, read about the sensors, the eye-tracking AF, the frames per second, the EVF? What would the DSLRinosaurs have done if they'd had all that lead-time to react?

The caterpillar thought it was the end of the world. But then, it was handed a Canon and became a butterfly.
