Sippy,
I’m sorry for going out on a tangent about the YJ’s. I was just trying to interject some levity into the conversation. I did not want to take away anything from your photograph , that was truly great. I have to learn more about the process and try some of my own. Thank you so much for your understanding. Bob

So that’s what these little bastards look like. I’m in the process of removing these from a part of my house of course it’s near the roof and a total PIA, I’m gonna try to get some pictures of them before I annihilate them this will be the third major nest I don’t with all my 60 years of homeownership. Oh what fun I’m having,I’d rather be taking pictures even of them somewhere else, take care

CanonBoyBob, this is a little video that shows the most effective Yellow Jacket trap that costs virtually nothing. You can kill an entire nest of hundreds.

Yellow Jackets are "meat eaters" so a bit of raw chicken screwed to the board or smears of cat food is irresistible to them. Placed on boards turned bait side down over a bowl of soapy water is all it takes.

Oh, CanonBoyBob, this forum is for sharing and educating so please post your Yellow Jackets for they are quite interesting creatures although they are the spawn of the Devil. It's good to see them in their natural habitat so folks know what to look for...and look out far. Please feel free to add comments and images to my posts for I enjoy seeing the work of others and what knowledge they can pass on to me and others.

What is there left to say, sippy?

Thanks, Kpmac. Be careful clearing storm debris for these little devils could be under anything.

Thanks, SX2002. Our "stingers" are quite mild compared to those that you have down there which push the threshold of pain to its limits.

Nice shot Sippy, I hope it's in your collection. More stings from Yellow Jackets than all bees/wasps combined.

Thanks, Curmudgeon. As the saying goes, "It sleeps with the fishes"...well, in alcohol actually.

This is a 5X magnification focus stacked view of a Yellow Jacket.

I've acquired several yellow jackets that I have encountered during daytime walkabouts however this is the first one that I came across in the dark of the night. I found this one actively working around the porch light where I imaging it was looking for an easy meal of the insects that are attracted to the light. It now resides in my collection where it will star in future sessions of various views and magnifications.

This is absolutely awesome. Thank you for posting this, sippy.

This is amazing, Gary! Those little buggers can certainly wreak havoc on a picnic! I’ve saved the video you posted for canonboybob on the homemade trap and will certainly use it. Thanks!
