Canon PIXMA mega-tank printer

I've always used Canon printers and need a new all-in-one that will still do decent pictures. Considering a mega tank but some of the reviews aren't great and since it only has 3 color tanks, it probably won't do a good job for pictures. I was considering the G5020. Advice please, from anyone using this printer. The search function didn't yield any recent posts about the mega tank printers.

There is also the Epson ET-8500 that I am considering. It has 6 EcoTanks

Canon does not call the 3 color 5020 a photo printer. Canon calls the G620 a photo printer. It has 6 colors of ink in tanks.

That's what I thought. Thank you. What about the Epson ET-8500?

The Epson advertising says that the ET-8500 is $600, uses 6 colors, includes a scanner and prints 8 1/2" by 11". The bigger, $700 ET-8550 prints 13" wide with the same features.

So for 8 1/2 x 11 prints it is the Canon G620 vs the Epson ET-8500. For 13 x 19 prints, it is only the ET-8550. I don't see a Canon tank photo printer that will do 13 x 19.

Availability is tight.

What do you want to know?

The epson has a better scanner, more input trays and an LCD screen. The Canon is currently unavailable at B&H. I’m mostly interested in picture quality between the two. Is the Epson worth $300 more?

I have the canon g6020tank printer. With glossy paper it does an awesome print job.

Thank you for that. I’ve always loved my Canon printers. I didn’t know they had a 6-tank printer, so I plan on getting that one when it is back in stock. It’s the G620.

The G6020 is a four tank, utility printer. The questions here are about the G620 that is advertised as photo printer with 6 tanks. For reference, the long popular Canon Pro-100 has 8 colors in cartridges.

Is six colors enough for great photos?

I actually have a dedicated photo printer, the Canon Pro 10. This printer is for my daughter-in-law. She just wants an all around that will do a decent job on 4x6 pictures. I am on a waiting list for the Canon G620. She decided to spend $300 instead of $600 for the Epson.

Thanks for your input. You steered me to this printer.

All the reviews I’ve seen rave about the print quality of the G620. HOWEVER, what they don’t tell you - and I just found out the hard way - is there are NO print drivers for Apple OS. Apparently, all is well with PCs though.
