I was walking around Ashland, Oregon recently, and two people walked by me with an ice cream cone. I hadn’t had one in years, so I bought one. Sugar cone, one scoop of vanilla ice cream. Price, with tax, $5.86!
As a kid growing up in Queens, NY in the 50’s, that cone was 10 cents. It was 12 cents if you wanted chocolate sprinkles on it.
Prices are just nuts.
I often tell others that mention how prices have gone up that the reality is that the value of the dollar has gone down. It now take more dollars to buy the same items. We just have to hand over more dollars for then now. That's what happen we a nation uses fiat currency (money that is a currency without intrinsic value established as money by government regulation or law).
$0.19 for a McDonalds hamburger... yes, I AM that old!

But do they still work? Back about 25 years ago I went to a shoe store closing down. They had sneakers for around 20.00 a pair that normally sold in the 80.00 price range. I wear a 14/15 shoe so often my shoes cost more than the smaller sizes. I loaded up and bought 5 or 6 pair. Well, since I no longer did any athletic activities I only wore sneakers one or two days a week. Two pair lasted me a long time. One day several years later I decided to break out a new pair. They fell apart in my hands! I guess they suffered the same fate as tires when they dry rot from setting around for a long time!

I opened them up, and they seem okay, but they're Medium, so they're a bit tight. I use disposable latex/nitrile gloves when I need them.

$0.11 for a White Castle hamburger. $0.13 if you wanted cheese on it. Affectionately called sliders.

Down South, we had Krystals -- same exact concept except their burgers didn't have the little holes in the meat. They claimed the little holes allowed the onion flavor to go through and flavor the meat. To me it means that for every 11th burger they got a free one! Anyway, Krystals often ran an ad in the Sunday paper 10 for 1.00. I remember quite a few times I would get a 10 pack and eat all of them!

The holes in the meat was so they would cook faster!
On the way home from partying at about 2am I would pick up half a dozen and eat them just before I climbed into bed. The good ole days!

I remember the coupons in the newspapers - five for $0.25. I go back to the pre-cheese days.

When the meat is about the thickness of four sheet of typing paper it doesn't need any help to cook quickly! I guess the answers you and I posted shows there was no corporate required answer the staff had to give.

It is important to occasionally move in hopes that nobody throws dirt on you.
