Wanakena is a tiny town inside the Adirondack Park . If you are traveling through the Adirondacks, I recommend making a stop in Wanakena. Here are a few scenes that grabbed my attention during our recent visit.

no. 1 That orb is the moon setting in the west. It was still dark at the time of this shot. I used my headlamp to light the foreground.

Very nice set, for me the first one especially.

I think I agree with you. Something about blue hour right before the sun comes up.

I like them both, perhaps no.2 best for the composition. no.1 is also very good but the one tiny 'fault' that lets it down is uneven light on the grass. An even spread of light would really make it for me.

In fact, perhaps 'lets it down' is an exaggeration. Lovely shots.

Being still asleep as I write this, I thought #1 was the sun rising until I re-read your comments. Either way, an exquisite image. #3 appeals to me very much, also. Both draw me in to the scene, with a great feeling of tranquility. Gorgeous light!

I find the composition of #2 to be a bit awkward, the placement of the island primarily.

If you plan to print, be sure to fix the sensor dust spots in the sky

Looks like you had a good trip. I particularly like your first shot. Without you mentioning that was the moon I would have assumed it was a sunrise. The sky reflection in the water is a classic shot, that was handled well.

As I was looking at that grass, I realized that the light does not match the natural light on the lake. But then, it would not be a match if I had used "fill" flash from a Speedlight either. It looks better with some light than none at all. So, I guess, using the light from my headlamp was an ok compromise since I rarely have a flash unit in my bag. I can see your point, though. The leadlamp just does not have the ooompf that a flash unit would have had. Live and learn.

OOOHH, I should have caught those dust spots. Glad you pointed them out. I think that no. 1 is becoming my favorite. I think that I will actually print this one. Thanks for your comments. Very useful. I also agree with you about no. 2
