Photoshop Elements - How Do You Remove Stains

Could someone walk me through the steps, using Photoshop Elements 2021, on how to remove stain marks from old scanned photos. The YouTube examples I have seen are mostly for Photoshop and not Elements. I have several old photos that have developed stain marks. I have attached an example.

I would appreciate any help you might offer.

\Not perfect but.........

I selected the stained area, used brightness/contrast filter - curves - color selector. I then blended the edges with the clone tool set between 20 and 60. I used the clone tool at a low level to get a bit of texture into the repaired area.

If you want the woman's left sleeve a it lighter to match the left just select it and use levels to get it where you want it.

Oops....I'm fairly sure Elements has all the tools I used. One more thing.....if you blur the edges (2pixels) of what ever tool you use to select the stained area it will make the blending a bit easier.

You're quite welcome. I'm not the best in PS but I sure enjoy my play time.

Don't be distracted by the color of the stain. First desaturate it then you only have tonal issues to deal with.

Another possibility would be to desaturate the whole image (since it's a B&W). You then have the option to add the tint or tints of your choosing.

The Luminosity sliders in the HSL tool still work even if the original image is totally desaturated, so you can use the Luminosity slider/s of whatever colour/s correspond closest to the colour of the stain to lighten the stain. You may find that the same technique works on areas that have been damaged by sunlight, moisture or whatever.
