Of the images you presented (all very nice by the way) personally I prefer the BW. With the color removed the emphasis becomes form and shape of which there is a lot of in those images. It is the heart of image. And BW reminds us of an earlier time, with BW film and high contrast grainy images. Yours are not, they are very well exposed. But BW harkens back to that time period.

Yes, I tend to agree with you. Fred pnm made a good point also by adding just a touch of grain.

I prefer the B&W versions. They remind me of the photos taken by locomotive builders. So sharp. I've not been successful in achieving that look. There are so many very good color images of 4014 that your B&W one really stands out from the crowd.

The attached picture was taken about 50 years ago, when 4012 was at Steamtown, when Steamtown was in Bellows Falls, VT. It was probably taken with a Minolta SRT-101; developed by a friend in his now long gone darkroom. Great fun to look through some of those old shots of a young me.
