Fill layer vs photo filter layer...
When you use the fill layer to achieve a special effect, you are basically making a performance mistake.
A fill layer creates a pixel layer (more memory).
A photo layer filter does not.
The controls methods (blend/density/opacity/mask) are the same.
Note:
The photo filter is not directly editable (as painting on it). You need an empty layer for that.
Caveat, if you are a control freak as I am, add an empty layer anyway as direct editing of any pixel layer is destructive.
Tip:
If you want to invert your image color to correct the WB...
Use the photo filter layer.
On the top right, use the lab color A and B. Change their value by adding a '-' (minus) to their numerical value, then use the layer as you would otherwise.
