Ran in to a photographer the other day. He had a Leica( I believe SL, 47 mp) with a 285mm lens on it. How long of a lens do you want &, does any body make an adapter to mount other manufactures lens on the Leica? Welcome to the hog.

Thanks for the Sony RX suggestion. Have been looking at Fujifilm models, too, in particular the AR7IV (think that is the model) and was impressed. However.... the lenses for that are huge and not sure that is what I want to lug around. Then again, not sure about having a single fixed lens. I know, make up your damned mind.

What lenses for the RX do you have/like?

RX cameras are fixed lens cameras. My RX100 is a M5 with the Zeiss Vario-Sonnar F1.8-2.8 8.8-25.7 lens (24-70mm) equivalent. The newest model MVll has the Zeiss Vario-Sonnar f2.8-4.5 9.0-72 (24-200mm) equivalent. This camera is very pocketable. If you need interchangeable lens then, definitely look at the Leica or the Sony a6xxx series. There are excellent Zeiss and lenses for the a6xxx series cameras. Note: I also own the a6000.

Ah, yes, a fixed lens but looks like it has one heck of a zoom on it. Just read a review and it appears to be very well received. Will delve into it a bit more and thank you for the heads up - does look like it might be what I am looking for at the present.

Thanks again,

I probably don't want to spend that much on a Leica + the lens. If I had to have only one lens it would probably be somewhere in the 50 mm for a 35.

So with the a600 what lense(s) do you use? Read the review of the a6000 to a6600 and might be interested in the 6600. The RX100 is quite the work horse for it's size but my hands get lost on such a small camera. Still, am weighing the options.

Some people have complained about the small size of the a6xxx too. It took me a bit of time to get use to the size of the RX100. But pocket ability is a big plus for me. The a6xxx is coat pocket or cargo pant pocket size. I have the standard Sony kit lens kit lenses PZ-16-50mm and 55-200mm. I was quite happy with them until I saw a friends images with the a6xxx and Zeiss lenses. The Zeiss Vario-Tessa T E 16-70mm and the Sony SEL 70-350 G. Many readers here really love the PZ 18-105G . My Leica friend really loves the Sigma Art series of lenses. Just slightly larger than the a6xxx is the Full Frame a7C . Both the a6xxx and a7C are all the same E mount and the lenses are interchangeable. Note: using a aps-c lens on a full frame camera turns the full frame down to ape-c (it's automatic on a7 series cameras). If the RX series is too small then look at the a6xxx. And definitely compare the Sony a7C vs the a6xxx.

I have a soft spot in my heart for Zeiss lenses dating back to my first 35mm camera , a Zeiss Contaflex. And then Exackta and Rollie. I have not compared the Sony G and GM lenses to Zeiss lenses. Somewhere I read that the Sony GM 135mm lens was the highest resolution lens on the market. Keep asking Questions, I will do my best to give honest answers.

Here is another RX100MV shot from last night. Normally I shoot the MilkyWay with my Sony a7iii and a 14mm lens. So I thought I would try the RX100MV. Boy was I surprised at the quality of the shot.

Quite the shot! Wish we could do that here but there is way too much smoke!!

Well, broke down and bought a RX100 iv. Was a reasonable price and I wanted to see if I could live with the shorter telephoto. So far, still working out the kinks and pages, and pages of options...

Question- Did you take that night pic using the "Scenes" and Night photos program or ?

No,not in scene. There are two ways to do it. You can do it in “S” or “M” mode. Set iso to 2000 , shutter speed to 30sec, f-1.8, focus to manual a set to infinity. Self timer and tripod mount. AWB to Florescent cool white. I also have the mode set to “vivid”

We go in and out of smoke here. The shot was taken at Big Lake Campground. Near Sisters OR. The Lake is at the foot of Mt Washington. We were camping for 3 nights and 2 of the 3 nights were not smoked out. I set up everything on my cameras for night shots before I even go outside. That way all I have to do is quickly recheck everything including focus then shoot. You can’t see anything in the viewfinder so your first few shots are just guessed for frameing. Bright stars and street lights will show up. So use them as a guide for placement. In my shot. Jupiter and the buildings were my guide. Good luck..

We live in Merlin so not that far from you. Welcome! This is a brilliant place and I am slowly gaining the confidence to show some my photos. A couple of years ago I took the decision to get a Nikon D750 and three lenses. I love the camera and still learning about the finer details. Once again, welcome to Ugly Hedgehog.

Thanks for the welcome, appreciate it.

Lots of very beautiful scenery near Merlin. I need to do more exploring up your way now that the smoke is gone.....for a couple months!!

Again, thanks.
