Sunlit Snow Shower

Several years ago, I rented a cottage in Leadville, CO. It was a gloomy day, and it looked so dark out through the north facing living room window, I wasn't expecting to see this scene when I stepped outside to check the weather to the west. I really like how the sun lit up the snow shower. Thanks for looking.

The idea should have been getting above the homes and pinpointing more of the mountains in the background. The homes in the foreground are distracting.

Thank you everyone for your critiques and comments.

The primary thing that motivated this photograph was the illuminated snow showers. In my experience, these types of scenes have been fleeting. After making the photograph, I immediately went back inside and got my car keys and drove to the edge of the neighborhood to get a clearer view of the mountains. Unfortunately those few minutes later, the sun shower was finished, never to return that day. Hence happy to take what I got.

I consider the homes to be an integral part of the image. The storm clouds overhead were the kind that are so dark, you think the sun is going down. Back in 2013 when this image was made, that part of Leadville was frankly pretty drab, even more so under those clouds. Yet sandwiched between these two layers was an incredibly beautiful moment. Meanwhile, everyone was inside their place none the wiser. Clearly I got lucky.
