My little Speedy had to be euthanized yesterday morning.
So heartbreaking, it's just devastating.
Little Ava Grace, Grand Daughter, 8 YO, placed one of the roses she and her Brother and Sister brought yesterday.

Some of you might remember him from being the Sleepy Dog, of the Sleepy Dog Observatory in Saugus, CA.

He lived 18 years. 17 1/2 with us. And he was a very well traveled companion. One of his favorite trips was to Lowe's where he'd stand up at the front of the cart and drive us around the store in search of whatever interesting stuff Dad needed.
He'd been a constant companion on RV trips and helped drive by keeping Dad's lap warm, and warning when a strange smell came through the vents. He always was disgusted with skunk smell and would alert to it before we could smell it.

Oh, it's so hard missing him.

Your lil buddy will be waiting at the Rainbow Bridge, and his spirit is exploring the stars, still with you, forever in your heart. I miss my lil buddies, too. You gave Speedy the final act of love, easing his transition to the stars.

I enjoyed the video, too.

Thank You. Yes, he will always be with me.
I'm still taking him out to pee before bedtime. But I wish him a good night at his grave instead.

I, too, like to believe that. He was the most amazing buddy.
He simply fell asleep in my arms, snoring a bit, before the vet finished.
I wanted it to be as peaceful for him as possible. And it was.

The Grandson and his girlfriend came to be with us.
Speedy was officially, "Chase's Dog that lives at Grandma's."
Chase's dad wouldn't allow a 3rd dog at their house. So Grandma and I decided Speedy could live with us.
He was a rescue. He'd been cast to the street by a bad breakup.
He wondered in where I was working late on a Friday evening. A call to the number on his tag got a woman who said, "I gave he'm to he'm and I don wanna see he'm again!" and slammed down the phone.
I brought him home. We tried twice to place him and he came back the second time. Grandma had had a dream he went to a home where he was abused. She declared if he came back we were going to keep him.
He did, and we did.
He was my partner in crime. And he always was happy whenever his Boy came over.

He left indelible paw prints in our hearts.

He was this man's best friend, for sure.
He'd lay out on a chair and nap while I fought to learn AP.
But if he sensed something he would alert and chase after it, no matter how big. (But mostly rodents. )
It never matter what, he was always along for the adventure.

Thank You Bloke. One of the worst things in life to bare.
To me nothing in life compares to the love and friendship a Dog gives.
And this little guy gave 24/7 his entire life. Up to the end he was cuddles and doggy hugs.
Heartbreaking.

My heart goes out to you.

I have an almost 15 year old Golden, well over 100 in human years. He is a rescue as many of our cats and dogs were during my life. They are friends and loved ones who ask so little for giving us their everything.

The love is real. The painful loss is real. And yet, with time, you will decide to invite another furry loved one to share their life with you. This is the way it is and always has been.

I could not say it any better. I am still grieving the loss of my best friend late last year.
I feel for all of you. Few things are harder than this.

Hi SonnyE
Sorry to hear that you lost your puppy. Losing a member of the family like that is always difficult. My things quickly turn around for you in your time of mourning.

Thank You, Paul.
I would. But the wife can't bear the pain.
Still, I'm thinking.... There is a rescue near me I can volunteer for. My baby sister is advocation to find a senior dog needing a home. That has been on my mind for a while now.
We have a friend who rescues Senior dogs. I might talk with her.

I'm not one to do alone well. When spouse-less, I go find a wife. But found me a forever now.
So I love dogs. They always love you back.

I don't know. I need some time.

Thank You, Ballard.
Yes, like I told the Grandson, this is one of the hardest things to go through. Death is so final.
And we can do is to hold on to all the memories, the happiness, and the experience's he brought us.
Speedy was there when Chase caught his first Bass at 5 years old.

When Speedy first came home with me, Chase immediately went to work wanting him as his dog. His Mama brought him over and he ran in the house and asked Grandma, "Where is he, Grandma?"
Grandma told him, "Just watch he'll be right back." And speedy came running at full speed from the back bedroom, out and around the dining room table, and back down the hall. He made another lap, and on his 3rd lap up the hall Chase said, "WOW! He's Speedy!"
He skidded to a stop, he looked up at Chase, then looked up at me, and back at Chase, then back to me. And I said, "Do you like that name? Do you want to be Speedy?"
He was wags from the tip of his nose to the tip of his bushy curled up tail.
And that was how he got his name.

Chase's Dad said, "No more dogs!"
So Grandma said, "How about if he is Chase's dog that lives at Grandma's" And that is what he became after trying to place him with two parties. Grandma had a dream Speedy went to a home where he was abused. She told me that if he came back the second time, we're keepin him!
That made me really happy, because I loved the little guy and his great attitude.
The vet did a full work up on him, estimated his age at 6-8 months, so we gave him Chase's birthday to share.

Yep. The little guy is sorely missed. And will never be forgotten.

Just a little update.
Speedy has his headstone.
I instructed Chase to take it after we are gone and they sell this place. So he'll always have it.
