Here are a bunch of Plover shots I got yesterday using 19 years old Sigma 800mm F:5.6 AF and a 9 year old Nikon D600. It seems the camera really likes the old lens.

Great shots of this endangered family.

I have yet to see Chicago's plovers in person, when it's really just a long walk to their nest from my place. Hopefully, they'll be back next year since I've added a longer lens for the hope. In the meantime, here's a Chicago Tribune update on our piping plovers and the relative overall success throughout the Great Lakes:

I was impressed with them. They protected the nest by chasing away Killdeer and Terns. They sat on the nest during a hard rain storm while I had 2 big lens pointed at the nest. One of the chicks only a couple of hours old left the enclosure and went exploring. I shot them for about 3 months.
