Fantastic as always. I love your soccer shots, they are always super sharp and the comp is right on. It has been so HOT here the last few weeks. I don't even want to go outside. Shot a volunteer car shoot yesterday, I do 12-15 a year for a local city. It was warm but was under trees the whole time, humidity was a BITCH though. Finally left and when I walked out from under the trees it was so damn hot! Have to mow lawn this morning, getting started early to get done before it gets too hot. Please keep posting friend love it as always. Thanks BE SAFE!

"...You say the nicest things..." And you take the most incredible images!
Amazing acuity... fantastic composition... epic pivotal moments...

What I want to know is how the heck did that team captain get three feet off the ground in the second image?
Even ballerinas struggle to attain that kind of height!

Believe one reason I love soccer so much is that the still images can look so surreal...
There is an aura to airborne soccer players that only gymnast, pole vaulters and the like surpass...
And with gymnast and pole vaulters they preform a very confined space (i.e. highly predictable).
Where as soccer play occurs over a vast expanse of the "pitch" and is totally unpredictable chaos...

Jules you have an uncanny ability to be at the right place with the right piece of kit at exactly the right moment!
So jealous... lol

Thanks again for sharing your masterful artistry...
Please stay safe, it's looking like Déjà vu...

Thomas thanks as always for the nice words.
Not only am I worried about the virus and not being able to shoot starting in about 3 weeks.
This morning I read in the Review Journal we don't have enough referees. Supposed to have about 391 for all the fall sports, but no we are about 125 short. What can we do? Nothing but to go with what we have to work with.
Be safe and be well,
Jules

At least in a dry heat. That's what we say here in Las Vegas. Yeah like an oven.
Might have a problem here with the referees not enough..

Jules there has been a paradigm shift in Sports & Fitness that came out of the 80's fitness boom... I was caught up in this and became an avid runner & cyclist... 10K's every weekend... and being blessed with endless miles of paved bike paths I could actually cycle into the heart of DC and back again (70 miles round trip).

Fast forward: Your home town in CA give birth to the Surfing culture the absolute "King" of individual sports... Which btw has also given birth to Skate Boarding. That is now actually an Olympic Event!

Times are a changing... Team sports may begin to fade as individual fitness grows... Gym membership is a way of life for working professionals in my market.

The old adage "When one door closes another opens" is so timeless and germane...
while I love photographing sports that I once participated in I'm hearten to see our youth transition to other fitness paradigms that get them outdoors, into the sunlight and off the couch...

Although the thought of a soccer match without referees is beyond my comprehension... this fast pasted contest seriously needs Yellow and Red Cards to keep the injuries at a minimum otherwise ambulance service for those in critical condition may not be able to keep up...

And heaven knows the local hospitals in your area aren't looking for new customers...

Oh, have you considered officiating soccer matches? Maybe the pay is good?
Stay safe... Stay healthy... enjoy!

To old for being a ref. Can't run like I use to. Weather when we start here in August at game time 3:30 around 105. I sit on my little chair with my big hat and shoot away.

"...I was thinking (1/500 f/2.8 or f/5.6 ISO 200 or Auto)..." DelRae while I can't hold a candle to Jules mastery of soccer I do shoot on a soccer pitch now and again. I would not shoot at less than 1/2000 for soccer.

Below is an example with my settings...
This typlically works well as a starting point, remember you can always "fix" noise in post, albeit motion blur not so easily done. Also while I've shot at f/2.8 I find the DOF a tad tight... especially when action is close...

Hope this helps
All the best with your grandson's matches...
