I recently left the forest fires smoke in Montana to visit my daughter in Boston. This picture from my hotel room approaching sunset on Boston harbor clearly shows what I thought I left behind! I wonder how much further east the jet stream will take this smoke?

Good photo - I think if you had gone south you would've run out of it.

We had an air hazard warning in Maine on Wednesday. Fortunately that cleared out yesterday and today's rain will further clear the air.

Nice one. Funny how all the boats grouped in the sunlight.

If I remember my meteorology class notes, the Jet Stream will carry the particles until gravity overcomes the lateral force of the winds, sometimes taking more than one orbit. The particles will also disperse along the path of the wind, lessening the haze effect. Gravity eventually wins, though.

That is what inspired me to grab the camera for the pic. The sailboats were out in full force early in the morning and towards evening.

The states east of the fires should sue the west coast states for polluting their air and damage to buildings and food crops.

Hope that's stated with tongue-in-cheek. States have sovereign immunity for natural disasters like floods, fires, etc.

So, how do you sue "Mother Nature"? Many of these fires are started by dry lightning in very remote inaccessible terrain with tinder dry fuels. Others are sometimes started by beer drinkers partying around a campfire and then leaving it unattended. Neither one will get you much of a settlement. You need to read the response from "pendennis" above.

yes it was an attempt at humor. What I was really saying is sometimes there are lawsuits that are just wrong. Sometimes I say something off the wall just to make people think. I think the fires are unfortunate whether intentional or lighting strikes and will not even address those that state they are caused by poor forest management. The people being hurt by the fires is sad.

As the drought continues it is apparent that many homes are built in places that will burn.
this 2020 map shows the places at risk https://www.firelab.org/project/wildfire-hazard-potential
Sure a lot of places that i would not want to have a house

We had a sailboat years ago. When we were new at it, there were two kinds of wind: not enough and too much.
