If you pass through on the road to Bath, stop at Fatboys and treat yourself to one of their incredibly delicious BLTs. You’ll be very happy.

Food is really off topic, but as long as others are offering suggestions, here's mine:

When in Rockland, be sure to try the lobster BLT (AKA lobster club) at the Brass Compass Café, which won out against Bobby Flay in a throwdown! Outdoor dining area if (like my wife and I) you're not ready to dine inside. Open for breakfast and lunch only.

And for sites to visit, don't miss the Farnsworth Art Museum, also in Rockland.

Food might be off topic but IMHO good food never hurt a trip, whether vacation or photo expedition, never heard any one say great trip but lousy food.

Totally agree, but at some point these threads can become a bit prolix, so good information might get lost.

We could have a whole forum section of food and lodging recommendations, sort of a photographer's Trip Advisor.

Then if you're driving be sure to stop at Bob's Clam Hut on the way into the state in Kittery! Right next to the Kittery Trading Post, so easy in and out from I-95. Whole clams in two styles, also clam strips.

And though I can't personally vouch for this, Down East Magazine rated these lobster rolls best-in-the state:

Bob's has been on the list for several years, the shack in Kennebunkport too, have a list for this trip, 3 days in Moosehead Lake (Greenville) and then 4 in Wells.

Are you familiar with Billy's Chowder House in Wells? If not it's worth a try.

Oh yeah, we hit him on most trips, in fact that was the first restaurant we ate in years ago on our first trip to Maine by ourselves, stayed in Meadowmere (Ogunquit) that trip.

We started by visiting Ogunquit, then Kennebunkport, then Bar Harbor; bought a second home on MDI on our second visit here, and moved permanently a few years later.

My early wife was a Mainiac and I was stationed at NAS Brunswick for 3.5 yrs. Camden was my “wear civies and pretend you’re not in the Navy” goto town.
