I’ve never seen a reddish egret, and the local birders were quite excited about the appearance of this bird. Their behavior is fascinating as they run back and forth, flapping their wings, looking for small fish. They also create a canopy overhead with their wings to create shade to better spot the fish in the glare. I’ve included some long billed curlews that are starting to migrate back from spring breeding grounds, and a fledgling snowy plover and very young killdeer chick. It’s been a good birding week!

Nice! In SW Florida, Reddish Egrets are relatively common, but I have never seen a Long billed Curlew. Thanks for posting.

You are welcome! Reddish egrets are found on the Florida and Texas coasts year round, so I bet you do see a lot of them. We get the few on migration so it’s always a big deal for us to see one. The last time one was seen in the slough was several years ago, so I was happy! Thanks for stopping by, Clark!
