I have a d500 and it does everything I want it too. Go for it if you have good lenses.

Old man here who likes to travel
Had D800E and many FX lenses= great but too heavy; great pentaprism viewfinder
also D5200 and several DX lenses= main travel gear; most photos with it; hate pentamirror viewfinder!!
Tried Z50 with FTZ and DX lenses a little lighter; works well, so much so that ordered pancake Z DX lens; this is now my main travel camera ; would carry DX 10-20 and telezoom only occasionally
My thoughts:
After learning Z50 love silent mode and ability to catch stills while doing video When getting snapshots of grandkids daughter complained of "noisy" D5200, no more problem there
Two wheels on Z50 only one on D5200
Also Electronic viewfinder very clear in poor light
Do not do large enlargements to justify full frame ; happy with 20 mp sensor
Wish for DX Z lenses; save bulk of FTZ
Also able to manually focus some vintage FX lenses and even a Vivitar Series 1 Macro in Pentax thread (not to infinity) using mechanical pentax thread to Z; outlines edges in focus
Now waiting for Z FC , just to jave again real dials not so many nested menus

I bought the D500 to go with my full frame Nikon and it is the best move I ever made.
The D500 is a fantastic camera.

Agreed. I love mine.

I worked my way up from a D40 through a D7000 and D7200 up to a D500. For a crop DSLR the D500 is as good as it gets. If I BBC was looking for a DX camera today it would be a Z50. I went to FX and get a Z7 over a year ago and it’s my go to camera. I still use my D500 with the 200-500mm for wildlife but will probably sell both when Nikon releases the Z mount 200-600mm later this year. If I V stuck with DX I would have a Z50.

ATM there are only two new DX Nikons. They’re aimed at quite different users or demographics, so it’s hard to imagine a buyer being indecisive between the two.

Neither one is an upgrade of the other. It’s two parallel choices for two groups.
So just buy the one that “speaks to you” and thaz that !

Although I could really use a DX body I must decline all the current DX Nikons cuz none have IBIS. I do use a Z6 with three nonVR lenses. The IBIS is great.

I'm enjoying my new Nikon Z6ii mirrorless--and haven't touched my 750 since buying it. I just wanted to try a mirrorless and I'm very pleased.

I went mirrorless when my flip phone died and had no choice other than get a Samsung powered by Android or whatever the heck the darn thing is called. Right now sticking with my D850 which does nicely with manual focus Nikkor legacy primes. Mirrorless is yet another con job by manufacturers to get into your wallet. They hype technology to the point you almost have no choice but to buy in because those same manufacturers obsolete stuff so you have to buy into their hype??? Like the alleged coin shortage a while back, just a way to force you to use some kind of plastic for your every purchase; yet another way to track your life day to day. Coin shortage? Not according to our older daughter who has worked at the same bank location for the past ten years.

That would certainly indicate that most peeps just don’t understand flip phones.

When I joined this forum in 2017, the world was going to end if I didn't immediately buy a D500. A couple of months later, my entire family was going to be kidnapped by unknown beings if I didn't buy a D850.

Turns out that I did eventually get a D850 a little over a year later, then a D500 a year or so after that. But not because of the hype, which was mostly gone when I bought my D850 and completely gone by the time I bought my D500. I like both cameras so much better because I bought them as a result of really liking them...not because someone was shouting in my ear that I had to buy them or be declared a world idiot. In fact, I bought a second D500 after a few months.

The funniest part of the story is that my reasons for buying each camera are almost completely different from the reasons everyone said I needed them. But I continue to be very happy with each camera, without the hype and pressure.

So I hope the OP can take what is needed from this discussion and make good choices.

I thought there are 4 new Nikon DX bodies you can buy now. D3500, D5600, D7500 and D500.

🤣😂🤣
I would never denigrate the flip phone. They can be very useful to make phone calls. I also wouldn’t buy one now since my current phone is more often used for myriad purposes other than making calls. Although is does that rather well too.

If you are looking into a Nikon DX camera, check out the Z50. It punches above it's weight class and is bargain priced. Sample images attached.

I currently use the flip phone. It does have a camera but that was because I didn't want to wait for the non camera version when I bought it about a couple years ago. It wasn't cheap, it cost me $260. I like it. It works well for me.

D500 would be an excellent choice.
