Do a search on how to speed up PS CC. You will gain quite a bit of information.

Of note, changing the OS temp location to a different drive than the OS's will disable the neural filter downloads. The solution if you go that route (temp change) is to redirect the OS temp to its own drive (usually C), download the filters then reset the OS temp to a faster drive.

Also, when using ACR, set the temp space allocate to the fasted drive you have and in its own directory.

I use the neural filters now and then...didn't know I could download 'em to reside on my 'puter; is this what you're saying? I just looked on YouTube and there's one tutorial, but using the old interface...advice?

I think it was something else but without commenting on the actual scratch disk settings changed it is hard to know what it meant exactly lol
My thinking it was temporary memory for imported file settings but without actual information about settings found or changed not too useful. Imho lol

What a difference in performance and speed of processing multiple RAW images. It only took two clicks in "Preferences/scratch disks. I had set up scratch disks before, but I was being "dumb" about uploading the RAW files. I amaze myself. At least I'm still here, alive and learning!

Be well,
Mark

Don't feel bad Mark, I make many mistakes. Keep plugging away. The information you noted is good to know. I am just getting started.
Thanks.

Will you explain to those of us who are tech-challenged, just what you did in those two clicks, please?

Sounds good to me.

For the unwashed low life like me in UHH educate yourself...

For using an external or additional drive...

In general it is effective for more than just PS... most editing programs can use a swap or scratch disk. [?]

Thanks.

Sure:(for more information use the links in Pullum's response)
1. In PS, go to Edit/preferences/scratch disks
note: You need to have a fast drive in your PC. I have 6 drives, two of them are NMve. I use one for the operating system and the other to upload RAW files. I'm sure you could designate a folder on main drive to store the RAW files
2. In Scratch Disks put a check on the box (click) of the drive you want to use as a scratch disk. I'm sure one could make it more complicated and perhaps operate faster for PS, but I'm happy with the performance of doing it my simple way. (note 2:PS finds all the drives in your computer and creates a list in "Scratch Disks".

That's all folks, Good luck!
