_That's_ why our orange cats schmooze with our Rotty-Lab mix! If you listen really hard, you can hear them purring, "When I grow up, I wanna be just like you!" (The grays couldn't care less.)

This made me laugh as I am picking up a black 8 week old kitten tomorrow. My dog Blue was born where there were cats and is ok with them, but having one to live with us? Every thing should go fine..

My daughter has two male kittens from the same litter. They're a riot. We enjoyed them for a week while they were on vacation. They were a riot, chasing one another. It's great when you're young. A week was enough for us. However, my daughter and her family will be getting a golden retriever puppy in two weeks. This should be interesting. At one time we had two dogs and a cat and they were the best friends. I think she remembers those days and is reduplicating it for her kids.

I have had cats and dogs before and they all played fine so I am hoping the become best friends.. Good luck with you daughters pup, if the kittens are still young it should be fine. The sad thing is a lot of people think it is fun to teach dogs to chase cats. My neighbour has 2 rescue cats and Blue was very interested at first but I kept say leave to him and now the cats and him have no problem when he looks over the wall to see them..

I think it's a myth about dogs going after cats. It may be the other way around. In 1960 I was twelve and my parents built a new house. My Dad planted three saplings in the back yard and kept them straight with old tennis string, which he removed from rackets which he had re-strung. One day a dalmation wandered into our yard. Our cat, being territorial, started chasing it. The dog started running away and looked back to see where our cat was, not seeing the string. The string caught him on the side of the neck and flipped him on his back. He didn't yelp or anything, so I don't think he was hurt. He just got up and ran, rather casually, out of the yard. Just goes to show how intimidating cats can be.

Just depends on the cat. We have cats and dogs that get along fine together, but some cats can be fiercely territorial, and I’ve seen one of our cats stand down and then chase a German Shepard. One swipe across the nose is typically enough to establish long-term deterrence if the dog chases them into a corner.

But when that cat jumps on your bed to sleep with you and just purrs away, you know that your are special. The Queen (or King) approves of you.
