These two images were taken just minutes apart from nearly exactly the same place. They do have slightly different perspectives. I really like the undulating hills in the foreground, and how the distant hills are indistinct so as to not compete with the foreground. I did do a bit different treatment of them in PP. I'd like feedback on them, please. Do you like one better than the other and why? Are the buildings along the river too distracting? Any other comments you'd like to make would be appreciated.

Edit: Ah ha!

You could try some alternative crops. Maybe a little haze reduction. I prefer the lower.

For me, #1 appears more 3 dimensional than #2. I like what you've done. Most important when at a site to try slightly different angles, different cropping/image formatting, etc. You might feel that you 'nailed it' in the first pic and then discover that one of the other images is better in several ways.

The cost of digital imaging is so low, why not???

I have some shots from different angles, but this one was my favorite. Thank you. Interesting about the 3-D'ism. Hadn't even thought about that!

To my eye, the second shot has a bit more contrast in the valley that separates the foreground from the hills in the back. In the first, I think your background gets a bit too washed out and flat. So my pick is the second.

I would like to add that I really like the composition. You took full advantage of the topography in the foreground to immediately grab the viewer's interest. Then the view becomes more complex with the valley and the background. There is a progression here that is really pleasing. I really like the photograph.

Thank you, Erich. I applied a graduated filter to the top of the image in the second one. That is probably why there is more contrast there.

My thoughts are much the same as Erich's. I slightly prefer the second. I found it hard to be sure why except that is seemed to have a touch more contrast. I really like the whole scene and I love those foreground hills!

Thank you, Carol. This is interesting, because I actually chose the first one to develop. But because of the slight differences, did the second one also.

Yes, that would certainly make a difference.

The second is marginally 'better' due to the increase in contrast (in the landforms), but the overly abrupt transition --the 'gradient'-- in the sky from pale blue to darker blue doesn't do it for me.

Thanks, Cany. I actually changed the tone of the blue in that one, but only by a couple of points. I didn't darken it specifically. I'll take a look at it.

I like others prefer the second one. It ha marginally more contrast. I don’t find the building at all distracting. You might trying punching them along with the water up a bit. Not sure if that would work. But if it was mine I would give that a try. If it doesn’t work, no harm no foul.

Thank you for your suggestion. Pardon my being a bit ignorant here, but how would you "punch them up?" I have LR6.14 and CS5. I assume you mean to give that area a bit more contrast?

Yes, I have both LR and PS CC. Just a simple mask and than worked on the exposure. I worked on the edit to see how it would look. I didn't get crazy. Just wanted to see how it would look. Using both programs.

Thank you. I'll look into that.
