This would require additional optics in the hypothetical ZTF converter as the Z lenses are designed for a short (mirrorless) flange distance (16mm for Z, 46.5mm for F). These additional lens elements would more than likely degrade IQ and would probably not be worth it but would be interesting. An FTZ adapter does not require optics.

RE: TCs for use on Z. Not knowing which F-mount lenses you’ll be keeping, but if they are the long lenses for use with TCs then you should use F-mount TCs.

A TC should always be close as possible to the main lens (notice that all the dedicated TCs have protruding front elements to accomplish this).

It's also done that way because the manufacturer would much rather you buy an expensive longer lens than a relatively inexpensive teleconverter.

Not really impossible...it would just require optical manipulation...at least one lens element. And if done well...to the same level of design and engineering as other modern optics, it could be done with little or no image degradation. But that would take away the illusion of obsolescence of DSLRs, so I doubt that the marketing departments would ever allow it.

Toadally useless ...

Good point.

I currently only use a TC with my 200-500. With the FTZ I could still use that. I probably don’t need another TC for Z unless I were to go strictly Z. I currently plan to keep at least my D850.

Seems most 850 users just can’t bring themselves to part with theirs. Nikon marketing will be careful not to repeat that mistake !

I know what you mean! I think if I gave it up I would regret it later. I also have a D500 that I am very fond of but I think the D850 can cover for it.

Do any of the Z cameras offer focus bracketing for stacking like the D850 does. I did a quick scan of Nikon’s website and did not find an answer.

Has anyone used the Z mount teleconverter 2.0. Nikon says there is no loss of image quality. I assume it does cut down on light. Also, does anyone make extension tubes for Z cameras. I do not use the ZTF converter.

Cwilson I forgot to mention, the 2.0 teleconverter currently only works with the Z 70-200 lens. As with any 2.0 converter you lose 2 stops of light. I currently have the 1.4 converter and it's tack sharp.

Back to the focus shifting. They way it works with the Z cameras is you tell it how many pics to take max. Then you tell it on a scale 1-10 how much to shift the focus with each shot. You then focus on the nearest object and click start. The camera will continue to shoot until it hits infinity. If you select 25 shots for instance and it only takes 5 complete the job, the camera will stop there. It's nice that you don't have to touch the camera while the shots are taking place.

Thank you! I have a 1.4 TC in F mount and I have always been very happy with the results it gives me.

It sound like the Z focus shifting works just like on the D850! I really enjoy using it.
