Work gear just got updated with a Nikon 40mm f/2.8 G DX Micro-NIKKOR.
Some of the (edited) photos below.

It's a very nice, sharp lens with minimal distortion and color fringing.
I think it would not be appropriate for free roaming creatures. The focus would be too close it could shoo them away.
For general photography & static macros, it will serve well.

Lens Verdict:

I've had one for several years and love it.

I had that lens and used it on a D7000. I thought it was excellent. It was sharp and had excellent bokeh. The only reason I sold it is because I don't do macro photography.

I have owned one for a few years, and it has become one of my favorite primes.

It is a bit longer than a 'normal' lens on a DX body, and a bit shorter than a 'portrait' lens. The 40mm focal length fits into a nice and mostly unused range for a prime lens on a DX body.

As for macro - I like it for things that aren't moving, it isn't particularly good for insects and other things which move and might be spooked by getting close.

Yes excellent optical properties... flat field... virtually no distortion, CA etc...
Albeit working distance may not be it's forte... lol

Nice jewelry renderings...
However do take care with reflection control...
Lots and lots of flags and cutters are germane here...
i.e. providing "Negative" fill...

Oh, btw that lens works like a charm for Nikon's E1 Slide and E2 Slide and Negative copiers... :)

Thanks for sharing Wallen

Presently, the reflection noise can't be avoided because we are working in a makeshift studio. Covid has our main office closed and our main photography space & some equipment locked there.
