Has anyone had experience using this lens (with adapter) on the Z5? Any thoughts?
Thanks for any comments.
No. But, I've used it on both my D800e and D850. I rather like it. I've also learned that one has to be careful about what is included in the frame when photographing with it.

Too good to let this pass by. What do you mean about what is included?
One just has to be careful about what is in the margins of the scene they are photographing. The 16mm will cover quite a lot of area.

Understood. I was hoping for a more dramatic and exciting answer.
Thanks.

Nikkor lenses work beautifully on a Z with the F2Z adapter.

The Nikon 16-35 f4 is simply one of the best zoom lenses at these focal lengths. Most Nikon AF G lenses will work just fine off the Z5 (with the adapter) in fact, most Nikon shooters think the Nikon G lenses are better off the Z's.
This is my GO TO Landscape lens. I love to shoot foreground/background shots with this lens. At 16 mm it is as sharp as a tack, but, of course, it is tack sharp from 16-35, that is why I like it so much.
The image below (taken with the Nikon 16-35) is of one of the many waterfalls I shot while in Vermont. The town wanted to show that the original factory that ran on water power from the adjoining water falls (seen in the back ground) was made from the rocks in the river. Mission accomplished with the Nikon 16-35. My only complaint is that I wish Nikon had made this lens more compact.
I pair this lens with the Nikon 24-120 for landscapes because they both take 77 mm filters.
Good luck and keep on shooting until the end.
I have never used the 16-35mm on a Z5 with an adapter; but on an 800E it is a fine, sharp lens.
I used the 16-35 w/my Z6 when new. As good as with my D810. I cannot imagine any degradation with the Z5. It sounds like you have the Z5, but not the 16-35. I sold mine and purchased the Z 14-30; because it is lighter and an extraordinary lens. You can't go wrong with the 16-35.
I have a z5 and used to have a 16-35 Nikon f4 that worked fine together. There were no problems of any kind.....It worked as well on the z5 as on my D750. The only complaint was that with the FTZ the combination became front heavy and rather bulky. I have since then sold the 16-35 and purchased a Nikon 14-30 f4. It produces photos that are every bit as good as the 16-35, it takes filters on the front just like the 16-35, but since it is designed as a lens for mirrorless it is about half the size and weight of the 16-35/FTZ combo. If you have $1,000 or so (depending on when Nikon runs their promos) it is worth the swap. Plus you should be able to get a pretty good down payment by selling the 16-35. I have no regrets in doing so.

Not this exact lens but many other F Mount lenses from the same era, and have watched reviews of those that use this lens on the mirrorless system - it will work perfectly - even better than DSLR as there will now be enhanced VR as well as focusing points across the frame.
Any sacrifice in AF acquisition speed will be very small and on an ultra-wide essentially irrelevant - probably won't even be able to notice it if it exists at all.
Good luck!

I used it on D750 and on Z6. It's a fine lens, but not spectacular. It's pretty heavy, too.
Not rushing on this, but I might spend the extra money and go for the 14-30. Lighter and with good reviews and no need for adapter.
