Vice President Kamala Harris is in Guatemala and Mexico this week to better understand the root causes that drive Central American migrants to the US. It's her first foreign trip as vice president after Biden tasked her with leading efforts to stem the flow of migrants to the southern border. The Biden administration is under increasing pressure to address the situation at the border, and Harris' visit comes as a record number of unaccompanied children crossed into the US this spring. In the region, Harris plans to meet with not just political leaders but also community leaders and entrepreneurs.

From what I gather, the i*****l m*****ts seek entry to the U.S. primarily for their economic betterment. This fact explains why 90 percent of asylum applications go nowhere. The criteria for asylum does not include this motivation.

The trip to Mexico and Central America by VP Kamal will produce news stories, but effective measures to stop illegal migration from these places to the U.S. the President has abandoned or winked at. He stopped further construction of the wall along the U.S.-Mexico border. He stopped the program to keep asylum-seekers waiting in Mexico while initially processing their cases.

Instead of promptly deporting all i*****l m*****ts including minors, he has detained them in the U.S. at great cost to taxpayers. He has put unaccompanied minors in "pods" (AKA cages) while awaiting processing. News reports say he deports adult i*****l m*****ts, but this aspect of his bungling at the border receives scant attention.

He put a tyro (VP Kamal) in charge of managing the social invasion of the U.S. at the border with Mexico. Kamal has yet to visit the border to examine conditions there (because doing so would threaten her political future). Now she has taken a trip to confer with leadership in Central America and Mexico as to root causes of illegal migration to the U.S. She has no prior experience in international relations, either.

In addition, adults with their eyes open and brains engaged know that endemic corruption exists in these places. So, any U.S. taxpayer dollars that go thereto will almost for sure only line the pockets of the corrupt elite, not go to relieve onerous conditions that push their people to migrate illegally to the U.S.

Overall, potential i*****l m*****ts sense that the President has opened the border to all comers. His practices speak louder than words. The invasion continues because the President has refused to close the border to i*****l m*****ts.

They are not just leaving Guatemala they are going to the US, if they were just leaving Guatemala they could stop along the way after escaping the horrors you pretend are driving them. They come here for the benefits of living in this great country, all the free stuff for poor people, the great opportunities that are willing to sacrifice and do for themselves and the protections our systems of Laws offer. The ROOT cause is here both in the attraction and the change in policy of managing the border.

No one has the guts to to the right thing. Admit you were wrong reinstate Trumps policies. Also cut off the draw government aid to those who enter illegally. Instead of letting people just walking free once they get here. Hold them put them on ships and drop them off closest to the country of origin from which they came. Open Borders for immigrants isn’t the the real issue. The LAW (right wing guys say they support law) mandates they be allowed to come HERE to apply for permission to stay. Donny ran roughshod over those laws. If he had allowed Obama era rules to apply people would have been able to remain in their Countries when applying and waiting for decisions on those applications. Border crossings illegally were way down because of such common sense measures.
Border Walls were one small measure used in specific areas to control crossings. The problem was telling people that it was a good idea to put up a big beautiful wall all across the entire border; a ridiculous and cost-prohibitive idea. Drones and rapid deployment of Agents (Border Patrol) was a far more effective and far less expensive approach, nonetheless rejected by those who failed to appreciate that tax dollars in huge amounts would be required to pay for even moderate increases in wall length. Instead they supported the Wall, through which people could pass after cutting holes in it with little more than a warm butter knife.
Walls have never worked, anywhere. Ask Hadrian, ask the Chinese, ask the builders of the former Berlin Wall. None have ever had any long-term success. All were ineffective. Even a tall wall will fail. Show me a 20’ wall and I’ll show you a 21’ ladder, or a shovel. Where there is a will, there is a way! Drones and sound detection systems backed with boots on the ground are still the most effective means of control.
Also, to be t***hful, you will never stop all of the crossings. The places where these people come from offer only fear, hunger, human rights violations, and violence. Little or no opportunity to im prove their lot in life. Simply, even in our worst times there is too much opportunity here to not try to get some of it. If we can help some of these countries (IF, that is) maybe the plight of the people who might otherwise be the ones to leave, maybe fewer would leave. This seems almost an insurmountable problem, but all avenues should be explored. Sumpin’ needs to be done.
Again, it is the LAW that permits people to come here to apply for entry and sanctuary. It is not something you can correctly blame on this Administration. It is a problem that built up pressure during the last few years and could to a large degree, been defused, if it had not become fuel and fodder for political gain.

Kamal has no experience either in immigration matters or in international relations. The disbursement of Yankee dollars to Guatemala cannot paper over her tyro status. She will gain due attention and practiced smiles from government officials there as necessary for the infusion of these dollars.

But nobody so far has linked these dollars to progress (meaning change for the better) in moderating the supposed hostile conditions in that tiny nation and driving its citizens to flee to the U.S. Other sources say these individuals seek economic betterment here.

They do not want to stay in their own country to work to lift it. They know that endemic corruption stands in the way of improving the conditions for the little people.

In the meantime, she has run from her assignment by the President to manage the situation at the U.S.-Mexico border, which incidentally she has never once visited. Going there conflicts with the potential of her political future (a run for the presidency).

Besides, wh**ever Kamal or the President say, actions speak louder than words. The foreign nationals perceive an open U.S.-Mexico border. Biden has fomented this view by his dismantling the controls that the former President put in place to secure the border.

Harris' visit to Guatemala and Mexico is nothing more than political show and is likely not going to produce anything more than sound bytes. In fairness, news media reports, although few, have said that border officials immediately deport single i*****l m*****ts.

Everybody else apparently stays in the U.S. for processing, with some released to the interior while awaiting a court hearing date sometime in the future. Reports say only about ten percent of the i*****l m*****ts appear for their day in court.
