Orange Male House Finch

Today I have more House Finches than ever and a few of the males tend toward orange or orange/yellow instead of red. From what I have read in a few this is genetic but most it is diet during molting when they grow new feathers and some colors-red & yellow among them- the pigments have to come from their diet.
So this guy was somewhere else during his last molt eating a diet lacking in some supplements/minerals etc.
This individual seems to otherwise be just fine. In fact he was disputing feed etc. with several very red males and more than holding his own.

7DII, 100-400L mk2 @ 400, 1/2500 @ f/8, ISO-1600
hand held at aprx. 10' under cloudy bright afternoon light with very faint shadows

What a cool shot. Sharp and well composed. The head sticking in from the right side makes the shot.

Thank you.

This guy stayed around a while and gave me lots of shots. He wasn't about to let a fat guy with a camera in a blind or the other birds interrupt his chow call.
