I took this photo of an old mining train crossing a trestle with the intent of playing around with it to see what would become of it. The scene is located along the scenic Apache Trail at the Goldfield Ghost Town a few miles outside of Apache Junction, AZ.
I did a lot of masking to get rid of the original featureless sky in the background and even had to add some missing ties to make the trestle complete. Then I added the smoke feature on a black background rather than clouds to add mystique and finally inserted an oversize moon.
As a side note, commercial photography is prohibited at the Ghost Town unless permission is obtained ahead of time by the Mayor aka owner.

I like it. Lots of work to get there and it paid off.
What a fun result from an engaging and unique original subject! If you're interested in taking this further, try for nighttime lighting
For future posts be sure to use sRGB color space if you want the thumbnail to look the same as the download.
I like this a lot. I also think Linda's idea of making it a nighttime shots would be worth exploring!
Thanks for the reply kpmac.

This was a fun project and I have another shot from the other side of the trestle where I have the dark silhouette of the train under the Milky Way. The first attempt was all natural with no cutting or moving so I did it a second time, cutting & moving which really improved the end photo.
Thanks for the sRGB tip, I'll try that.

Very well done! I love to see the creative juices flow!
Nicely done Jack - I really like this one!
Thanks for the reply Brent, sometimes the 'juices' get carried away though.

Thanks yssirk123, this project may change from time to time. I've got others that I have been working on for more than a year.

Good one, looks so much better in the download..
I like it, very creative. Might I suggest put the moon behind the clouds and perhaps a bit smaller. This way it is not the star of the composite. The train i believe is the main theme.
