Regardless of gender, race, creed or religion we need excellence.

Since this is your statement I have a question. How do we achieve excellence by not making people responsible for their own decisions? I can rob and not go to jail? I guess I have wasted my life in Podunk Ohio

People should held accountable and responsible.
And that was Podunk Iowa. Not the same place!

A canister of pepper spray readily available might have been an effective deterrent. I live and photograph in a wilderness so robbery is not a concern but I do carry pepper (bear) spray for the possibility of bears and mountain lions.

There will always be thieves, but what's amazing to me is the reaction of the police. CA is devolving.

Yes we have our share in Podunk Ohio. Mostly trying to steal ammonia from the farmers to make meth. It is probably our largest issue meth. I have lived here over 20 years and have watched sons and daughters and one wife become addicted to the stuff. A few success stories of rehab. The common thread in rehabilitation seems to be the person is finally tired of the hassle of being an addict. No one seems to be able to help them until they decide they TRUELY want help. Yes defunding the police and lightening the penalties just delays the possibility of getting tired and deciding to seek treatment. Some never do. My ex-wife is still in prison. I thought I could help. I learned a lot about the culture. A very long story.

Lived and worked in SF for years. Today i don't want to even visit the city. It was so clean and beautiful.....today it is becoming a third world dump. To walk down market street will make you sick.

So you haven’t been here, but you still feel qualified to comment.

That says a lot!

I had already decided some 20 years ago to drop San Francisco from my places to visit. I have enjoyed many great days and nights in San Francisco over the 39 years previous to the last 20. We haven't stopped there in the past 20 because of the gradual decline I observed coming about and reading about how bad it has become (indigents forcefully soliciting money, sleeping bodies on the sidewalks, public defecation and urination. All there for all to see and experience. I have friends whose car was broken into and their luggage and cameras stolen from the locked trunk a few years ago. Their mistake was putting the things in the trunk where they parked (for safe-keeping) when they left the car. Watching eyes stripped their car bare while they dined, even breaking a window to steal clothing! San Fransisco is at the top of my "Don't Go There" list!.

Once again, somebody without informed opinions. I live here, you don’t, and I don’t observe the problems you describe.

There are certainly issues to deal with but many places that are much worse. Perhaps you could focus your attention on them.

SF is still relatively safe,.

Compared to what? And not for Asian people. Unwarranted attacks have and are occurring on elders and women. Many Asians will not go out alone. They are afraid of becoming a target for violence.

It’s sickening how uncivilized goons are running wild with no fear of arrest.

Twenty five years is enough to form an impression. My wife grew up here. My 94 year old mother-in-law doesn’t express concern, just gets on with her life.

Many of the comments on this thread are from people who have no idea what they are talking about.

Personally I’d be much more concerned in Manhattan, Boston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles or New Orleans. Even Podunk Iowa!

It matters not if it was Seventy Five Years — if it is the WRONG impression.

Being “lucky” oneself does not negate the quantity and variety of the criminal element that has been set-loose by idiotic political ne’r-do-wells.

I agree with Hip Coyote. One needs to keep the safety of themselves and ones with you first. This event could happen anywhere. You need to keep aware of your surroundings. Yes you may have had a lot of time and energy into the production, but at least your safe. And the equipment.. that’s what insurance is for.
I moved from Tiburon to Southern Oregon 11 years ago. And although I always carry, both open and concealed, that’s a situation where I would simply smile that I’m alive.

If you need to change how you appear and dress just to go out how can you possibly say it is safe. The leadership in California hasn't had the citizens in mind for a long time. Drive the roads and streets you'll see a terrable homeless plus undocumented population problem. Read the crime rates it isn't a place to visit.

You live where? In SanFran or SoCal?

If so, do you read the newspapers? Do you visit read neighborhood social media site? Do you drive around and look out the window of the car? Have you been downtown lately? Have you stepped over people sleeping on the sidewalk? Do you see the homeless camps in public spaces? Do you smell the stink? Or do you live in a gated community surrounded by private security and receive all your groceries and goods while safely inside the guarded gates?

I live in SoCal and there is a huge problem here.

And it’s about to get worse as the LA DA has all but stopped prosecuting crimes and is working to free 10s of thousands of prisoners many are violent offenders.
