It is a privilege, not a duty, to contribute to the church's work here on Planet Earth... and God thinks pretty highly of those who do... Amen to our great Savior and King...

The quoted scripture Malachi 3:10 is directed to the sons of Levi (vs 3), not the people. The Levites are the tribe that collected the tithe, but they were not putting what they should into the storehouse: This was food for those in need. God states that in keeping it for themselves, they were robbing God.

Technically correct, but the lesson of tithing and providing the "first fruits" of our labors appears frequently and applies to all believers - at least, that is my understanding.
"Honor the Lord with your substance, and with the first fruits of all your increase; so your barns will be filled with plenty, and your presses will burst out with new wine." Proverbs 3: 9-10. See also Exodus 23:19, 34:26 and Leviticus 23:10. Blessings to you!

Hi Tommy, no disagreement, but remember that all this was to provide food for both the priests - who had no inheritance - and those in need. Today, the church wants 10% of everything and spends it on itself. The tithe is of the 'increase' - not everything. Read the rules for yourself, it was was 10% of what was left after all the expenses of living at the end of the year. And yes, this rule included allowing those in need to glean in the fields at harvest time. Read the book of Ruth for details.
RE: the scripture ref's. These apply to those who own what we call farms and the tithe applies to the INCREASE not the whole harvest. There is not one word showing that those working on these farms have to give ten percent of their food to the Levites. A person working for the farmer does not own any of the increase so has nothing to tithe on.
Proverbs 3:9 Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:
Exodus 23:19 The first of the firstfruits of thy land
Exodus 34:26 The first of the firstfruits of thy land
Leviticus 23:10 ….. bring a sheaf of the firstfruits of your harvest unto the priest:
