I respectfully disagree. Although you can make a good representation of an IR photo, there is a difference when you compare it to a real IR taken photo to the colour version.

Unless you tell someone it isn't taken with an IR camera...no one would question it...was my point.
If you have a camera to spare...really spare...go for it.
But it's more of a niche category...and can be replicated pretty closely with just software.

If you have photoshop, you can make practically any regular image look like an infra red image.
No one can tell the difference.

You can try, but it really never works. At least I have never seen a conversion that looks good.

Someone on UHH gave me this guy's address, and he is good. He does conversions to any wavelength that you want. I suggest reading up on the different conversations before you get one.
Mirrorless cameras are better because you don't have to get the lens calibrated, only the body. But try Isaac, he will treat you well.

Oh, I've looked into it before. In the end, I decided I didn't want to permanently convert one of my spares.
To each his own of course...but IR is mostly for landscapes...and that's fine.
I went with IR filters and my trusty tripod. It allows me to shoot in all of the available spectrums...as opposed to locking in my camera to one set of the spectrum.
I put it in the 'shoot the moon' category. It's a bit of a one trick pony kind of thing.
It's interesting and fun to do...no doubt...but not worth a conversion...not for me anyway.

I can use PS and filters to achieve what I want...but it's not very often.
I have some framed...and folks like it...but it's not something to fill a wall with.
