Some of us here are over fifty, and there's a rumor going around that people over a certain age have to "exercise" their brains to keep them working properly. I think I've stumbled on a pretty good way of doing that.

I know that most of us have different brands of cameras, and they all have different Menus and controls. I like to switch between Nikon, Sony, and Fuji to mix things up and remember how to use them. Bringing all three with me in the car and driving somewhere to shoot is a fun way to not only use different cameras, but also to exercise my brain - remembering how to use the different controls and Menus.

I wonder if such travel could be considered a medical deduction.

Good advice--keep moving and it doesn't matter which camera you use.

You'll have to find a very sharp tax advisor to get that one through!

Give it a shot. If the IRS disagrees with ya I'm giving you the name of my legal team.

My brain exercise is learning photography and videography post processing software. It never ends. Maybe, with a psychiatrist's prescription, my software costs could be deducted.

DITTO. I'm 65 and that works for me. Great opportunity because photography and software is forever changing.

Of course it a medical deduction! All you have to remember is ••• is ••• Wait, what was the subject and question?

Your exercise will keep your brain nimble enough to use various cameras; you just gotta hope you never have to, for example, read a map.

Jerry, when, "driving somewhere to shoot" The center-line of the road, yellow, is at the out the window elbow if driving on the left or right side of the road... Australia for example the steering wheel is on the "passenger side" of the car so your right elbow is out the window.

I longed for the Minolta i7000 modern camera, bought a used one to replace my Pentax simpleminded 1000. Beautiful shot missed, the i7000 had menus in menus and I lost a shot laying in ice-cold mountain stream trying to photograph the sun just at the waterfall top and the camera refused!! The old Pentax with the in-view light-meter needle would have done MY bidding. I almost had a stroke... 40 years later, not forgotten... so Jerry, frustration over menus may not be healthy.

When traveling, I get in the car and try to miss everything on my side by a six inches.
The other side takes are of itself.

Given the resources that the IRS has at its disposal, I think your “new found deduction” would probably get through. Go for it, Jerry! I attempt to stay sharp by reading UHH threads about subjects I don’t care about, present one the exception, of course. It’s not working.

Latest studies indicate that cardio may be the most effective way to keep your brain working as well as delaying dementia. It also has the added benefits of reducing depression and of course fittness and overall health.

I have about 70 in my camera collection, mostly film, several Pentax 6X7s (I used to repair them), almost all of them work! Love to shoot film, take a roll, shoot at anything, then run to my darkroom and develop them, good fun and exercise for an 82 year-old man!!
