That shouldn't be for us to decide for you. This is a choice you have to make based on your needs and preferences.

I made the switch to C1 about 10 years ago. I prefer it's editing abilities. LR bogs down too quickly when you start using the adjustment brush.

I use both. C1 is not an "up and comer" - it's been around as long as Lightroom - since 2007. It is the core tethering, image capture and processing software solution for the Phase One medium format cameras.

Sometimes over looked is the path of Adobe development. It stopped being a single application choice. It is now a system of interconnected parts. There are several Lightrooms, Photoshop, Portfolio and more. They all work together to enlarge what photography and videography are.

If all you want is the usual dozen post processing adjustments in one app, it probably does not matter what you pick.

If you can't do it with Lightroom, it doesn't need to be done.

I think you might be making things more complicated than they need to be with Lr. It can work as a bare-bones processor if you want it to. For example the Tone sliders in the Basic section will do anything you want so you don't need the Tone Curve tool if you don't want to use it. And the tools in the Details section are equally basic. The catalog can do a lot but you don't have to use all of its capabilities if you don't want to.

Needs are dependent on the individual. I need my Lightroom, but I also need my Photoshop for image transmogrification.

I'm just the opposite. I have had my own system of photo organization before Lightroom came along, and with ACR and Photoshop, I have no need for Lightroom.

I follow CHG_CANON religiously and rarely disagree with him, but something important to wildlife photographers, is the ability to select and bring into VIEWER (for enhancing or purging) up to 12 images side-side and zoom in/out simultaneously, move around in each image simultaneously, AND (and this is the deal breaker) RATE EACH/ALL ON THE SAME SCREEN...making it easy to purge, or include each in different folders. To do this in LR/PS, it MUST be done in the 2 different applications...ugh!!
Since I am only a couple weeks into the application, I can't honestly review other features yet.
Good luck,

I assume, of course, that was intended as a bit of hyperbole. Not everyone is familiar with your style which can occasionally confuse those who do not know you.

I believe all those things can be done in LR alone.

In the library module, you can bring up a collection of a group of photos you want to compare. You can select one and press 'e' (or double click the thumbnail) to enlarge it and use the arrow keys to skip through the rest of them, also enlarged. You can go back to the grid view by pressing "g'. You can enlarge or reduce the thumbnails with Ctrl-mousescroll. Looking at the grid view all the thumbnails have stars at the bottom that you can click on to produce a star rating. At the lower right of the thumbnail you can click to select a color label. At the upper left you can click to turn on or off the "pick" flag (or turn on with 'p' or off with 'u'). You can select two images to compare ('c') with the compare view or several images ('n') with the survey view. You can rate, label, or flag in the compare or survey view.

As far as including in different folders, I don't use folders much. They are irrelevant to the LR catalog. They may be relevant to alternative organizational systems.

LR is not complicated. If you are challenged by file management you will likely have an issue with LR - which is where most have problems.

The user interface in LR is streamlined and user friendly. Batch processing is similarly fast and efficient.

There are lots of things that can't be done in LR - or any raw converter.
