My Daughter took a trip to Israel last year. She took a lot of pictures and she wanted me to make a video of it along with a song my Grand Daughter sang during Easter. Your opinion would be appreciated.

There are not many videographers on UHH. I try to be one, but don't feel I'm very good at it. You asked for comment and I watch a lot of video looking for creative inspiration, techniques and styles.

Looks like your Daughter made a video she likes. In other words, well done.

But, I'm not a Christian religion fan, so that part is lost on me. With respect to the videography itself, the audio is out of sync with the singers lips, there is no intro or outro with credits and I am not a black bars fan. I think the pictures should fit the screen.

YouTube is a tough place. In the millions of providers some are skilled and set the quality bar very high. You and your daughter should be proud and happy with her work, especially if you are devout Christians. As a videographer she has a ways to go!

Thank you for watching the video. If you are not a Christian then I am sure that that part of the video is lost to you, but I thank for your honest and kind criticism. I am not a fan of "black bars" either, but all my daughter had was a cell phone, and most people that take pictures with cell phones have a habit of taking portrait photos. She did not create the video, I did. As far as the sound syncing with the video, with my computer and tv, the audio is in sync with the lip movement, so I can't explain why it wasn't in sync with your equipment. I do videos for my church and I am very meticulous when it come to that. I can't stand a video that the sound is out of sync with the lip movement, amateur or professional. Thanks again for taking the time to watch the video and for your honest opinion.

Bill, when I clicked on your link it went to You Tube and "said" that it had been removed by the owner. ;-(

Sorry, but I decided to pull the video. Thanks for wanting to take a look. I plan to put some more videos out later this spring that I hope will be better quality. I am not a professional, but I enjoy doing videos and photos, and always hope that others will enjoy them too. Thanks!

Making videos is hard. It can be so much more complex than processing a photo.

That's what I like about it. I just completed a 4-1/2 minute music video and it took about 2 hours to set up the equipment and put it away. It took about 10 minutes to record it. And it took about 10 hours to edit it. I'll post it in a new post.

Sorry you pulled the video Bill. I have all mine posted on youtube, the good, the bad and the ugly. If I waited for pro quality I'd have none. Sometimes I'll look at one I thought was great and a year later I'll say, ouch, I made a lot of mistakes on that. Other times the opposite is true. I'll look at a video I thought was poor that I posted a few years ago and it grows on me. We're not pros but the more we do, the better we get. Back when I was working, I estimated it took a couple of years of full time work to become proficient on the job. Maybe 10 years to achieve mastery. There's no way I could put that kind of hours into my hobby, so that's probably the difference between an amateur and a pro.

Yeah, I am too old to become a pro, but I can have a lot of fun being an amateur! :) I do our church videos and I use 3 cameras. Sometimes it can be a challenge to get the audio of all three in sync. I use a program that suppose to sync them, but sometimes I have to do it the old way, trial and error, but the challenge is what makes it fun.

Thanks Bill. I'm just a video beginner. It was shocking to learn that when putting together a video the most important part is the AUDIO! What! I'm making a video... Then I learned that the content of the video is to emphasize each part of the audio. So the video is VERY important but it builds on the audio. OK, I'm still learning. ;-) Sam

I would not say that the audio is the most important part of a video. You are right in saying "I AM MAKING A VIDEO! In my humble opinion the video content is the most important. If your video is not good, then you are wasting your time making it. What I am saying is that it you have good video content, but the audio is bad, then it can ruin the whole video. I do not pretend to be anywhere close to a professional videographer and probably not even a good amateur. I don't have expensive video cameras, just your ordinary Best Buy camera, iphone camera, and my Nikon digital camera. But you can make some interesting videos with such equipment. Use sound board equipment when you can. If you use music for the background, use recorded music from places like SoundCloud. And most of all, have fun!

One of the books (that I've purchased) on making a good video has these 'steps'
1. Who is your intended audience?
2. What is the "direction" that you want to move the audience?
3. What do you want the audience 'hear' (understand) so they will move them in the direction that you want?
4. What video 'shots' will 'support' what you are communicating in each segment?
Hope that is helpful in all of our futures.
Sam
