Amtrak Survey

I just took an Amtrak survey.  It was the second time they sent it, so I figured I'd get it over with.  At the end, they asked for personal information, like the year I was born.  It had to be between 1940 - 2006!  Imagine going through the survey and finding out that you were too old to be considered. I've never seen that before. Sometimes, a survey will ask questions right at the beginning to see if you're qualified.

That’s a downer. Does being a recipient of the survey indicate you had a recent trip on Amtrak? We’re considering adding a few days extra of partying before or after the next family reunion by going via Amtrak.

My son uses it occasionally, but I guess we're in their rewards program, and they want to know what we think about it. We don't use it often enough to know anything about it.

Their trains are very nice, as is their station in Manhattan. It's a cut above the commuter rails.

LIE ? How important to you is it that Amtrack get feedback? How much should they value your opinion REGARDLESS of age?

I'm a very important person, and Amtrak is fortunate to be able to get my opinion on things.

A bit of trivial about the LIRR. It is "Long Island Rail Road," not "Railroad." I used to live a short walk from the LIRR, very convenient.

I used to do surveys on a regular basis. Now I do one occasionally. I noticed that a few questions after they asked for age I’d be disqualified, but they’d never say for age.

Companies are all about surveys these days - online, email, snail mail. It always seemed to me that if a company has to ask its customers how their service and accommodations are, then they are probably past helping themselves improve their customers’ experience. Senior managers should know their business operations well enough to know what constitutes the best service. And they should use their company’s service themselves to get a first hand experience of what is being provided.

Lots of reasons for surveys. Looking for input on new products or services, determining strategy for marketing and brand recognition, demographics of customers or how satisfied customers are. That is how management learns to improve the customers experience.

I traveled from New Jersey on the Jersey Central Railroad first and later on the Amtrak line from Princeton. I ran for those trains on more than one occasion. I was faster then.
