Converting a TIFF Image to JPEG in Windows Paint

I especially like the image I made of a male Mallard duck at Botanica Gardens in Wichita, Kansas. However I messed up by editing it and accidently saving it in TIFF format rather than JPEG. After converting it back to JPEG in Windows Paint, I really like the detail on the ducks head. It was almost like he was putting on a show for me as the sun came up. What do you think about the importance of studying the histogram after each shot to make adjustments?

Many people swear by histograms,
many don't look at them.

I never use Paint for that purpose, I will change file formats using Adobe Ps or ACR. I often use Paint to process a screen capture. There are many reasons I will screen capture.

What editor did you use to create the TIFF?
Can't you open the TIFF in that editor and save it as a JPEG?

Usually when I take a picture of a mallard male, that irridescent green, which is so beautiful, kind of throws off the exposure somehow... Yours is super

A non-boring and aesthetically intriguing bird pic is a rare treat. Thanks for that !

FWIW, I’ll often do a “check and adjust” based on histograms but obviously some shots don’t linger long enough for that. Time permitting, I do find it worthwhile.

I’m not into ETTR. There’s real value in seeing the histogram without engaging in that method.
