Wh**ever the points given and arguments given, I also hope fervently for that rarely seen reasonable discussion. I would like to learn something without having to wade through personal insults instead of facts.

I tried. Sorry, I couldn't handle the contrived guilt. I'm sick and tired of having some percentage of melanin be the qualifier for every conversation. Not the way I was raised, not the way I live.

"I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character."

I remember at ten watching this speech on our old black and white Zenith on the single channel in Yakima. I only saw my old man tear up five times in my life and that was the first.

Actually haven't had a quiet moment, but I do think it might be educational to see it happen once. Or make a try to watch and understand others' point of view. Kind if like watching a cautionary warning to figure out their strategy.

I watched about half of it (17:18 to be exact).

I can tell you that I never really met and black people until high school. I mean, there was this one story about me and the bus driver. My Mom didn't have a drivers license so, to go into Boston we had to take the bus, the trolley, and the subway to get in. Some where along the way, and I was somewhere near the age of five, I got on the bus and handed the driver my token. He was a black man and as such he had black hands. When I got to my seat I told my Mom that his hands were dirty. I think the story goes that he overheard me and was in tears. I didn't know that there were black people in the world until that day. I didn't understand it until a long time later. I can almost imagine the same thing happening to a black child that had never seen a white person. Not today of course, media saturation being what it is. I wish I could tell him that I'm sorry.

Now off to privilege. Have you ever heard of Area B in Boston? I'm reasonably certain that I have zero privilege there. The same probably holds true for certain neighborhoods in Detroit, Chicago, LA, etc. It probably also holds true in the uber affluent areas of some towns. I have a thick Boston accent. I can go to the w****st state around (Maine) and get the runaround because I'm not from there, too pushy, a host of things, all because they can identify my accent. Granted, you need to be up close and personal to do that.

Other than that is there "white" privilege? There is educational snobbery for sure. And depending on what decade(s) you are talking about there were most definitely r****t attitudes that resulted in "privilege". Is that still true to the same degree? I really don't think so.

One thing I do remember one of the participants saying.
Maybe they were talking about service, but they said they expect ____________
As for me I don’t expect anything I have an attitude of let’s see how things develop.
I will have to rewatch it and this time take notes

You may have also heard of the Combat Zone in Boston. That's a fairly small part of Area B. Area B is Mattapan, Roxbury, and Dorchester for the most part. I believe that name comes from a Boston Police Map that identified predominantly Black Neighborhoods. Mattapan and Roxbury used to be affluent and mostly Jewish communities. The 70's saw the "great white flight" to the burbs.

I have expectations too. I expect people to do their jobs. I expect if they are working with customers that they are clean and presentable, speak clearly, and answer questions. If they don't know then I expect they will direct me to someone who does, or at the very least, someone who they think does.

I don't expect to get away with speeding, or blow off parking tickets, or a host of things the people in the video "expected'. What can I say? People can be sh!tty on the inside and their complexion has little to do with it. The country is about 65% white. It stands to reason that we have more arseholes per capita than any other group.

Case in point.....I have not heard one "Karen" reference to a person of color.

Well there you go! I guess I am not culturally exposed enough to have ever heard of that. Then again, I guess you're saying everyone's tribe has them whether they like it or not.
