Candid Photos New Orleans

On a visit to New Orleans I was amazed at all photo opportunities there were. Here are a few candid shots I hope you enjoy. 1 is the skyline in the evening, 2 is a decorated bus stop, 3 and 5 are musicians in Jackson Square, 4 is horse drawn tours and 6 is the trolley.

Looks like you enjoyed yourself. I have only been to New Orleans once for a bit over an hour at night. December 1973 on our honeymoon cross country LA to Disney World, back up to my home town in Kentucky, then St Louis and back cross country to the NW and back south to LA. On a tight schedule and intended to have a late dinner in New Orleans but couldn't find parking near anything but truck stops on the interstate so we moved on.
One nit to pick, I know many people call them "trolleys" but being a long time member of the operations department of one of the largest Railway museums in the country it is a "Street Car" and the "trolley pole" is the pole arrangement on the top that contacts the overhead power wire. When they first appeared in the 19th century people called them "Trolley Cars" to distinguish them from the old horse drawn street cars. Just like the ones in San Francisco and other places that used a cable to pull them became "Cable Cars". In the UK and most of Europe as a group they are generically "trams".

Nice set. Having lived in La. all my life I sometimes forget that people find New Orleans a fascinating place.

You are welcome. If you are interested in old rail vehicles look here: oerm.org or socalrailway.org (Orange Empire Railway Museum) It is now the "Southern California Railway Museum" but they kept the old on line site name linked to it. The board of directors changed the name a few years ago because too many people (tourists) thought it was in Orange County near Disneyland and would get upset when they found it is a long drive to southern Riverside County with a mountain range in between. The area used to be known as the Orange Empire because of all the citrus grown there.
I still favor the oerm because all my uniforms etc. say OERM and I intend to wear them until they (or I) wear out. I mean we are all volunteers and pay dues to be members and volunteer so if they don't like me wearing the old uniforms and gear they can lump it. A bunch of other older members are still wearing their old stuff also. The little kids and tourists don't seem to care as long as they can ride the trains and streetcars.

In New Orleans they are definately known as street cars...100% of the time.

Nice series Matt. Hope you got a chance to go to the WWII Museum. You could spend one whole day there.
