D500 Flash Control

My flash control option in my Nikon D500 is gray. I cannot access the "flash control" under the shooting menu to set up any options. I've read the apparent sections of my manual. What am I missing?
I just received a Godox 685 and a Godox XProN wireless flash trigger. I'm exploring my possibilities with this combo.

Shouldn’t need a WR-10 or the D-500’s internal flash control with the Godox system and you have an easier to access remote control in the Pro-N transmitter.
Ignore the flash menu in the camera.
I assume this your first time using Godox?
There is a bit of a learning curve to get it set up.

My D500 requires that there be active communication between the camera and the flash for the menu options to be accessible and usable.

The Godox works beautufully on-camera i auto TTLi. I am wanting to use it off camera. Will I need a transmitter? I just cant understand why the flash control option is not available on the D500.

It is designed for specific Nikon devices. There is nothing wrong. See page 208 of your D500 owners manual.

The Godox XProN transmitter that you have is the one I use with my Godox/Flashpoint lighting equipment. It has worked flawlessly so far. Ignore the in-camera menu for flash. It won’t talk to the Godox flash. Off-camera, I haven’t used TTL, but I suspect it probably works well. The X-Pro transmitter has an option to shoot TTL, then recall the power settings it used to convert to manual. That’s the “TCM” feature....but I’m old school and I haven’t used that either.

A few years ago, Nikon loaned me a D500 for a few weeks. Wow! Impressive camera.

I can't get figure how to get the XProN to activate the Godox 685 flash. I've tried to set both to the same group and channel. Are there online tutorials anyone could recommend?

This gets you set up fast:
Orange screen on the flash is for slave, so make sure it's orange and set to radio icon.

There are a lot of good videos out there.
THIS is for Canon, but pretty much the same setup for Nikon.

Believe it not, I found this one to be really good, despite it being in Mandarin ( I think it's Mandarin...) just turn the sound off and read the translation.

The transmitter works better with regular alkaline batteries, rechargables are less consistent.
Also, don't have the transmitter really close to the flash- it may not work.

And if you're on FaceBook, search for the "Learn to Light - An OCF Lighting Community" (Francisco Joel Hernandez is amazing) and "Godox User Group", among others.
Facebook does have some redeeming value.

I believe the flash control in the menu is available only if you have a TTL flash attached. Is your flash manual or TTL?
