Nice. I use Photo Pills for the Sun/Moon , Blue Hour etc. What part of Mexico is this in? Was to Cancun back in 2007. Came across a heavily discounted vaca offer while waiting for a fax at work & decided to go for some scuba diving. I would head down to Cabo San Lucas for some fishing & Cozumel for scuba if things get safe again.

Nice shot, Gary. We went to an all-inclusive resort in Cancun several years back and had a nice time. The best part was visiting the Mayan ruins. It you haven't been to Chichen Itza then you should during your next visit - but not during severe heat!

Thanks for dropping by. This is one of the Karisma family of resorts. They are gourmet all-inclusive with some of them as adult-only. Truly first class in every way. They are NOT the typical resort that caters to the masses or party lifestyle of the younger generation.

They are located south of Cancun about an hour from the airport. They take us from and to the airport in a private limo and we have our own butler for the time that we are there to serve whatever need we may have. All of the meals are served individually. No buffets, other than breakfast and even then most items are made to order.

I've learned...the hard way...to scout for what I want to showcase as in my photos and what I may need to capture it with attention to where sun or evening illumination may be. I see (and I used to be one) many that just walkabout clicking away randomly. They are taking snapshots. I want to take photos now.

Of course I shoot in RAW and I shoot in the Manual Mode. Low ISO, lens mostly open and shutter speeds on the low end. I use Auto White Balance because I can always change it later if need be. Auto Focus with when the lens allows it. My shots come off the camera quite dark however that's what I'm looking for because there is a lot of detail in those darks and whites and yellows do not get blown out of their detail.

Then I can do what is needed to open up the exposure in post. Open the shadows. Enrich the midtones. Clean any pecker-tracks (spots) and crop to interest when needed.

Thanks, Elliott. We've been there and having a guide is highly recommended for they tell the history of the how and why it was built and they point out details that one otherwise may miss. I agree with you that the heat in the humidity give an all new meaning to the word HOT! It's warm at oceanside yet stifling in the jungle or anywhere inland. The abilities of folks in those earlier times is beyond comprehension and it is so unfortunate that there is no records of how they mastered such stone work and moved and manipulated such massive sizes of them. It appears that this skill and knowledge developed around the world all about the same time.

The Better Half and I have been vacationing in Mexico over the past thirty years and we have learned that staying at the 'Adult Only' gourmet all-inclusive is by far the best way to go. This is one of the family of resorts that we frequent. It is the Sensatori Karisma and this is a view of the pool-bar and one of the several restaurants on resort.

I caught this view during the "Blue Hour" which is really more like 10-15 minutes after the sun disappears and the sky develops a soft light which is complimented by the illumination of the buildings and landscape accents. For those with an Apple smartphone look for the "Sol" app and for those of us who have the Android smartphones look for the "Photo Time" app to find local times of the morning blue hour, sunrise, golden hour, sunset and evening blue hour such as when this was taken.
The Better Half and I have been vacationing in Mex... (show quote)

Nice shot! Visited Old Mexico many times in my mis-spent youth. Thanx for the memories and for sharing.
