I shot a bunch of Kodachrome 25 and later Kodachrome 64 and did not care for Ektachrome for the same reason. The first roll out of my Minolta SRT-102 (graduation gift from college) was Ektachrome and I had a roll of Ektachrome high speed that I loaded and shot for inside a cave in the late 1970s, but other than that, Kodachrome was it until I switched to digital.

I've got a number of pictures from growing up (1950s through early 1970s) that my dad shot, all in Kodachrome II (the old name for Kodachrome 25). He converted them to digital by projecting them and taking pictures of the projected images. They still looked great when he did the conversion in the 2000s, as do my Kodachrome shots from the early 1970s and later. Great film, I was sorry to see it go.

Looking forward to seeing them

We'll see how it goes - was hoping for a few more today, but the weather seems to be settling in. We do need the rain!

For what it's worth, in the NIK suite, ColorEfex has a variety of film emulation presets, including Kodachrome 64.

Thanks for the info! Others will certainly find that useful. Not my Cuppa - I want to be close as I can SOOC.

The best days of my life concerning camera's was my tour of duty in S. Korea as a Nike Hercules Repairman. I got to travel to various sites where the missile launchers where located, and I always had my Canonet with me loaded with Kodachrome 64. The slides and pictures were always focus sharp and the color was magnificent. Wonderful memories. I still have that Canonet; I just might have to go buy some film this spring. Thanks for reminding me Quixdraw.

Always great when something kicks up good memories! I always appreciate it here on UHH. I go film for half a dozen rolls every couple of years. It is fun and thought provoking. Were I you, I'd resolve to follow your plan!

I've had excellent results using DXO Film Pack 5. Many, many templates, tints, simulations of a wide selection of film stock color renderings (and B&W). It may be too easy for some but since I am not a tech wiz I find the program very user friendly and quite extensive in its' selections.

Thanks, my friend uses DXO, I will pass your tip along.

Pretty simple - I don't enjoy the computer work, I do like the photos I get without. Since I am not being paid for work, I can do as I, like.

I like your response. If you like your photo, that's who you have to satisfy. Me too. Press on!!!

If you check my D2x and D3 posts there are a few. I'll probably gather ten favorites and post under the title The Kodachrome Project toward the end of the week. Thanks for your interest!

Please do! I miss Kodachrome 25 ASA.

I think the D2x was a CCD (and D200 as well) (I am not certain) but do remember people remarking about the excellent color of that camera. The D3 /D300 went to CMOS thus it's big jump in high ISO capability.
Thats just my recollection.

The D2X uses a DX-format CMOS sensor supplied by Sony instead of either a charge-coupled device or the Nikon proprietary LBCAST sensor which had both dominated Nikon's digital SLR lineup until the D2X.

And now we both made the tedious thread just a little bit longer.

I shot a lot of Kodachrome while it was available and avoided Ektachrome for the most part because of it's blueness/blandness by comparison. UNTIL the Ektachrome Plus came out in 1988. I bought quite a few bulk rolls of EPP 100 and rolled/processed my own. It was like having a faster, more neutral, less contrasty, with cleaner, (no occasional magenta cast in the flesh-tones) colors than Kodachrome (sorry, K-diehards!), that I could process & mount cheaper; same day I shot it. I wish EPP was the emulsion Kodak brought back, rather than the current Ektachrome. (Still no fading after 30 years in the basement.)

Ektachrome was my choice, over Kodachrome. The reddish tint just did not seem natural while Ektachrome gave me skies that looked, I thought, like the skies I was shooting. And I could push it to higher ASA to get low-light outdoor photos without flash. For one summer I was working with a group of inner-city kids taking them on overnight camping trips. Getting fireside photos was important. I was using a used Argus C4 camera with a f/2.8 built-in lens. Those were the days. --Richard
