Thoughts on color, sharpness and pose
It's a nice sharp and detailed image as far as the eye and head of the bird. Perhaps f8 would have been better than 5.6 for better DOF.
Nice sharp image, colors are true as I remember them, the highlight in the eye brings the bird to life. I really like the pose and agree that a tighter aperture would add some additional Depth of Focus
If you wanted a documentary shot, then yes, a smaller aperture would have worked better. But personally I like the shallow DOF; it creates an artistic intimacy that I find appealing. Love the colors, and the pose adds personality to the bird.
I agree with koratcat, I like how you have the head/eyes sharp. I would darken the light area in the BG, I do find that distracting. Thanks for sharing, I have never seen a wild one.
The real beauty of this bird is seeing it's ENTIRE body ! - with most of it near in focus ... The closeness of this shot is unique - but does not do justice for the beauty of the bird......thanks for sharing
.
I agree with imagemeister. This is a very nice, sharp shot. However, I have never seen one of these in the wild but I know their coloring is gorgeous. That is kind of lost in this pose. However, you got the shot and it is a dandy. If you had waited for a different view you might have gotten zilch.
Interesting pose. I would have like a greater depth of field. It seems to be too much out of focus.

Great pose, colors really pop but seem right, exposure is good. As suggested f8 or better might have served the DOF issue in a better way. Thanx for sharing!
